    merv 8 or 13

Why isn't there some rating system for how easily air can move through a filter? We have merv for how effective they are at filtering. But I would like to know what going up on the merv scale is going to cost me in air flow. why can't we have great filtering and air flow? I have been experimenting with 4 and 5 inch filters with some success and customers seem to like the idea.

You can go to higher efficiency by using deeper filters. The increased surface area of a 4" or 5" filter substantially reduces resistance.

This article explains the concept in more detail and gives some pressure drop comparison numbers for different types and thicknesses of filters.
