Dr. Thomas Midgley Jr.(inventor of modern refrigerant, interesting history)
Me being a Columbusite for the majority of my adult life I appreciate this especially
Dr. Midgley chemical engineer born in Columbus Ohio first noted for his part in the invention of lead fuel additives under the employment of GM then went on to operate a plant for the production of the additive that resulted in several deaths many more cases of lead poisoning including himself. He once publicly saturated his hands in the lead additive and inhaled the vapor for 6 minutes to prove it was not dangerous. He was later from this position for lack of organizational skills
Later still employed by GM was moved to the frigidare division where he was noted and awarded for inventing FREON 12 as the fist nonflammable or toxic refrigerant.
Still later in his life he contracted polio and was bed ridden in his home in Worthington Ohio (myself also a former worthingtonite) invented a system of ropes and pulleys to pick himself up out of bed that he got tangled up in and died.
Later awards include being titled as "having more impact on the atmosphere than any other single organism in Earth's history" and added to the list of inventors that died from there own invention.
So heres to Dr. Thomas Midgley Jr. ::
