I was told this by my service manager early in my career. About 33 years ago. A customer's maintenance staff did this, sometime in the past.

You are correct . I was told by an old timer Trane guy that they had a propane fork lift hooked up to the back of the motor and were trying to yank the sucker out without going in the front end first . Chiller ended up in the dump , and the fork lift needed new tires
The toy chest is officially full ... I got a new toy..... 2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage and yes it still gives me goosebumps
You bend em" I"ll mend em" !!!!!!!

Reminds me of the days of leak checking r113 chillers low on charges, sometimes you’ll be lucky to hit 2psi. That’s circulating hot water 130 degrees.

when circulating your water make sure it's vented so it does not pressurize

    Ever heard of Prevac?

The UCP is reading 2 psig, but my gauge that is hooked to the evaporator is still reading 0. Another thing that is confusing me is I still have liquid refrigerant coming out the top of the evaporator.
I'm sure you figured out this problem by now, but are you aware of the product PREVAC that prevents air and moisture from entering the chiller when idle? It also has push button leak testing for servicing. Want me to send you some information?

Do you work for prevac? I have questions about the pressure transducer for r123, whats the output? 0 to 5V, 4 to 20...? and whats the pressure range? thanks
There is not better place for the working men than the union! 100% UA the only HVAC union!

Yes I do. The output on the pressure transducer is 4-20 milliamps. The pressure range is 30" of vacuum (-15 psig) to 15 psig. Do you do a lot of work with low pressure chillers?

Thanks! I work on low pressure machines here and there.
I removed a PreVac setup from a decommissioned chiller and I going to mount it on a hand cart, make it portable and use it for leak checking, the only thing missing was the transducer.

Does it have a 4 wire connection or a 2 wire connection for the pressure transducer?

You should have gone with your gut.

Potentially 90 % of leaks are found on either economizer flange at bottom of evap or suction elbow to evap due to rust etc
