I didn't touch the gas water heater the way you see it is how it was. On the west coast because of earthquakes you must have a flex connector between the appliance and the gas pipe Supply. Makes it easier but but it is code

She had no money. My real estate buddy and his wife had to front her the money for the furnace job

I am not sure why you are telling us that she had no money. When we install anything, no matter the price, the install is done correctly. The lower price should be a bonus to her, not a licence for you to do sub par work, if that is what you are referring to. I am not criticizing your work.

They will soon forget how long it takes, but they will always remember the quality.

This install looks about like my first and only ever attempt at sheet metal work... you know, when I decided that I shouldn't ever touch the stuff and to stick with refrigeration.

Why did she need a furnace in July?

So Kux I gotta ask: What were you hoping would happen when you posted this install to HVACTALK? Did you want praise for doing a budget job that doesn't pass inspection. Did you think you did a really great job and were hoping for positive feedback?
You got to understand many of the participants on this site are guys who've been in this line of work for decades and have seen a lot of bad work. Your work doesn't come close to being awfully bad. It's just ok and obvious you didn't pull a permit. You did an install that's just one step above what a homeowner could have accomplished. I don't see anything that's unsafe which at least I can credit you for that. However if you want to be considered a professional that others can look up to that you really need to aim a lot higher. Otherwise guys like marc are going to give you a hard time for being a cut rate installer.

BTW I'm not to far from you and if you want to be a better installer I could talk you through a couple things. I'd expect you to pay for lunch

Sure not a problem. I do it on the side when the opportunity arrives. I try to do it on a weekend cuz there's no way I can be done during the week. I've also had people call me a few times my furnace is busted I need a new one can you do it tomorrow I gave him them bad news.

I'm not ever going to pull a permit don't need to. I'm not legit on purpose. Something goes wrong they can't sue me nothing has gone never wrong but no one could try pulling anything dirty. So far everybody's been happy with what I've done for them.

Little hint... don't admit on a public forum that you are doing something illegal.

You truly dont know how the world works. ANYONE can sue you for ANYTHING. Being unlicensed, uninsured, and unincorporated exposes you to massive liabilities. You can lose everything over even a tiny lawsuit where no one was hurt.

They can't because they didn't ask for my contract number and didn't verify it it's on them. Those are the laws. There is nothing that's going to happen anyway. If it is a real difficult job that has too many challenges I turn them down. But I really shouldn't be talking about it because...... just because

The laws also state you need to be licensed, insured, and pull the relevant permits for the job. Yet you don't.
You're the epitome of a hack and yes, you can still be sued. Even if they dont win, your funds will drain to zero.

My hack job
Looks like hell, But what do i know *whistle* , we price by the job and doing the install correctly, yes you can give your friends a little bit of a break but i find taking money off means cutting corners, i dont go that route. If this was my friend i would make sure i charge properly and i install it properly, your friend wont be your friend anymore when they find out the $1500 ecm motor is now toast due to you not checking the ductwork and taking the proper steps because THEY DID NOT HAVE MONEY, Sure you can say its covered under warranty but now im sure you will bite the bullet and replace it for free as well. That $300 you made just costed you fuel, insurance (assuming you have it), and time. Now your paying your friend to install the job for them , might as well just handed them a $100 gift card and walked away told them to find someone else, just my 2 cents.

That furnace is actually smaller BTU then was there and I Put A two stage one in there for an extra $60 they had the money for that. One thing I noticed even the furnaces that are about 20 years old the newer ones even with the same BTU ratings on the lower speed still move more air.

Did Kux say he was unlicensed??? If he's operating without any kind of contractors license than that's a gross misdomenor in WA state. If he's doing work without permits than that's a civil penalty. The state would probably nail kux with a 1000 dollar fine or something close.
