It is cheaper to overspend on defense than to fight major wars. After 911 we had no choice but to respond with strength. I don't agree with everything we did but like all but a few my intel is limited.
I am in favor of reducing military waste but efforts to do that in the past haven't been exactly brilliant. When I was in the vehicle parts we could stock in the parts room were restricted obviously by some dip stick that had never even changed a tire. We ended up towing vehicles that could have been repaired without needing towed if we had the part. The part had to be changed with or without the tow. They at one point wouldn't let us store spark plugs. When it got cold 22 trucks that had to be started every morning had to be towed for starting.

We could spend 2% of GDP and still be completely dominant. And yes, I know efforts to cut waste don't always go as expected, but it should still be tried... repeatedly and continuously.

Agree we should make every effort to control waste but it should be done with input from those knowledgeable it all areas. Carter (democrats) cut the military budget to the point of near disaster. Our Nike system was in such poor condition it was scary. I am convinced a nuclear disaster was highly probable had Reagan not won and took badly needed action.

Here is a simple lesson of human nature:

When a dozen guys are in a field... and they gang up into 2 or 3 gangs... and oppose one another...

The gang with the largest stick... usually just glares at the others... and they (a rare occurance), use common sense and back down.

As long as the USA is the King of the world... we MUST have the largest stick.

And I guarantee you... if another nation (or a group of bankers, think globalism-one world govt) becomes the King... (and there will always be a king)...
Thinking they are gonna treat the USA fairly... is like believing in unicorns.

Having the largest stick... is just common sense...
And a (pseudo) intellectual that thinks otherwise (referring to self appointed educated folks), just do not get it.
(Bet if they spent a week or so in the 'hood'... they would learn... )

Besides... LOTS of technology that is useful for consumer goods... comes from the R&D that the military does.

Agree with the king of the hill statement.
Good analogy for a strong Military.
example are you gonna pick a fight with someone who looks like Dwane Johnson (the Rock)? How about Pee Wee Herman? See it works just like that.

The reason so many governments are against The USA and Israel for another example. Is because our very existence is a threat to them - to their form of government. After all everyone wants to live under a Dictatorship that jails and kills people who speak up. under socialism where around 70% of people are lower class 20% middle and the political socialist party members are 90% of the upper-class or 10% of the people. Or facist socialist that bullies people into doing things their way. OH I JUST DESCRIBED THE CURRENT DEMOCRATIC PARTY sometimes the truth HURTS.
There is only one truly right way to do something, but there are thousands of wrong ways to varying degrees to do it.
So the question is: If you don't do it right, then how wrong is it going to be???

Geez... it would be great if a socialist nation could have a middle class...

    Usually they do NOT!!!

    As in 1%ers rule...
    99% are peasants...

The funny part is that as they catch up with us, will Mom and Dad let them use the car to go to vote? Will the basement light be on so they can see how to get upstairs? Will they be hungover and just say bleh, Mom will clean up later. Or will boyonce be wiggling when they should be votin'?

mofo, of all the people on here, I thought you recognized how bad the progressives were effing up. If you don't think there aren't used car salesmen, lawyers and politicians (all the same slimy type of people) in your age group, GA has some land to sell you!

The millennials can't screw it up any worse than the boomers have. Did ya hear ANOTHER Trumpster had to resign in disgrace. When are people going to wake up and realize that this country has been hijacked by a criminal cartel.
Scott Pruit is just the most recent crook to get caught. Shameful what is happening to our once great country. MAGA is simply a casting call for crooks to fill their pockets with our tax dollars. It is certainly time for a wave to wash away the filth.

I don't know what you are talking about. If there has been wrong doing there will probably be indictments. Doesn't change the fact that so many people have had to resign in disgrace from the current administration, or more accurately cartel since it seems to be populated by criminals.

Of course not, government officials get away with more than us common folks ever could. That is why it is so apparent the current administration is riddled with in your face criminals - they don't even try to hide their dirty deeds. Just pure arrogance.

Come on GA you mean to tell me that you have no problem with polecats jet setting in first class and furnishing their cozy offices with high end furniture. Pruit even had some sort of high security phone booth. Sounds pretty gangsta don't you think.

And you are gonna tell me... just because the MSM hid it... that the left did NOT do this???

OTOH... the DEMS KNEW of Harvey Weinsteins sins with devious sexual behavior... yet ignored them...
And I suspect you are gonna tell me that is OK???

Some posters... seem to have learned from the pros... how to behave like a polecat...

Nope, it is not ok when any politician turns to grifting my tax dollars for their own benefit especially when they are so in your face about it. This is not about R or D this is about people blatantly ripping us off to live like royalty. It seems some can turn a blind eye to such behavior when it is "their" guy but would like to only see the opposition prosecuted to the fullest extent.

By the way, when did Harvey Weinstein ever get a cabinet position?

I heard his favorite position was bending "aspiring actresses" over a cabinet.

Harvey Weinstein was a HUGE DEM doner...
That is every bit as important (more so)... than a cabinet position.

If you knowingly take $$$ from a person who is breaking the law...
And the legal system turns a blind eye (or looks the other way)...
That is no less dishonest than spending the weekend at a Madam's establishment.
