    I like the hydraulic expanders.

Ive got the Yellow Jacket set

    Does 3/8 up to 1 5/8 I think.

Real easy to use. One hand operation.

I've got the Hilmor version - it's spendy, but it's super nice and one-handed. Works in fairly tight spaces.

I have the YJ manual expanders. I prefer them over the hydraulic. I feel that I better fine control over partial expansions.

I've got the hilmor compact swager. Pretty awesome so far. Swagged a 3/4" line coming thru the wall of a package unit with about 8" between the wall and the evap and all the distributor tubes in the way. I haven't had to go looking for any fittings since I got it (4 months)

    I bought and returned them!!!

I did not have an easy time like the video.
    Hard to hold the tubing.
Tubing gets HOT!! To the point of discoloration, especially on the larger sizes.

I had a bunch of scrap tubing, collecting for recycle, that I had to practice on. Just never got it to work to my satisfaction.

I use the hilmor hydraulic, it's the only hilmor took I like. Nice and compact, no issues. Stay away from their flaring toes though imho.

The copper is supposed to change colour. They have to anneal it before expanding it.

I love my spinflare and swaging set. So compact and have never failed me in over 2 years.

I asked a couple supply houses about those spin swages as one of our techs swore by them. They all told me they stopped carrying them for liability reasons, to many injuries caused by them

Like Marc I have and prefer the manual lever swager as I also feel it gives better minute control. I have a rigid set up to 1" 1/8 except for the 1/4" swager which I added from another brand.

Although the Spin Swage sounds good at first glance, I avoid it because I'm concerned about copper shavings plugging up the tiny little strainers in VRF equipment.

    That was my other thought/experience.

Also, the "burnt" deposits it creates.

What injuries? I'm curious as I work for a supply house in Chicago. Haven't heard anything negative. We are looking into getting some samples to check them out before we sell them. They haven't been on the market that long and I know Rectorseal sells there own version.

You guys are making me worried about my spin swedge, it's the only type of sweding tool Ive used and I've never had a problem. Pipe does get hot.

Regarding injuries, I figured it probably had something to do with pointing a spinning drill or impact at your hand. Maybe they meant burns from the pipe getting hot, I didn't ask much further as the end point was they didn't carry or order them. I found a Stephen Rardon YouTube video with the hilmor that sealed the deal for me, I also want to get their pipe bender kit that seems to always be out of stock at trutech tools
