Some of the refrigs use a defrost/freeze sensor on the refrigerator side. If there is a refrig evaporator and a freezer evap. look for the sensor to be bad.

If it freezes on one side and the fridge side doesn't work then the evap fan might be broken.

A few years ago i needed a new fridge. i consulted a couple of appliance forums, and the pros there recommended I get one with mechanical controls, or be prepared to replace boards within 5 years. So i did, no problems 5 years later. I have had bad luck with Frigidaire. When I was younger, Kenmore products were all whirlpool, not any more most are Frigidaire. The first 3 digits in the model # can tell you who made it, download a chart you can locate on the net.

I was in high end remodeling in the later 1980's... working out of a Kitchen/Bath showroom...
We had reps visiting us all the time, trying to sell us their stuff.

The appliance guy told us a story one time: He said some appliances are still made in the USA... however the ones that are not, come from the pacific rim. He said every year, the big name companies put out specs and take the lowest bid. So each year: Whirlpool could be made by a different shop, maybe even a different company.

IMO the REAL problem... is Americans are sooo obsessed with price... they do not understand the word quality.

Relays installed on boards are probably at the absolute minimum amperage rating.
