    HVACi - HVAC Investigators

Has anyone had dealings with that company? They pay a fee which was close to our rate but they also expect a detailed report which took more time than I think is necessary
We were contacted by the company above to go check out a heat pump which the owner said had been struck by lightning. Apparently they investigate for insurance companies. It was a lousy installation. The compressor was shorted to ground, probably just from overheating with the poor ductwork. Oh yes and there was the remains of a dead snake in the electrical compartment.
We decided to decline any further work from them.

As long as you get paid the normal rates you expect for this type of work why not do it for them?

They probably haven't gotten paid yet. A company like that will hold payment for 30 days.

I did a detailed report with pictures for them on a geo system that had died for some reason (don't remember what , was a few years ago). Got paid my rate and they got someone else to do the work. I think it was a friend of the homeowner.

I am sure it took 30 days to get paid.
Can someone please explain to me -
Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but plenty of time to do it twice?

Cut a deal with the owner, tell him it wasn't lightning but that's what the insurance report could say...

    Money issue solved

Dude, that is just pure dishonesty. You are in the wrong trade for that.

Play the game straight or not at all.

Your posts are confirming my feeling about the company. We told them they either pay OUR rates or we don't work for them. They have not called us again and I'm happy with that.

In fact the single call I did for them was at a house that did not have any markings on the mailbox, no name and no number. I know it was the customer's fault but that indicates to me that HVACi's customers put all the responsibility on someone else, as in "it's up to you to find where I live without any help from me."
