    Carrier 80% 2stage furnace (58CVA)

Looking for a low budget option. Would the 2 stage 80% still be more efficient than my 24 plus year old 80% single stage York?

No. 2 stage furnace on a 2 stage stat will provide extra comfort but not save bucks. A lower priced well installed 95% might be the way to go. Might even be a gas company rebate.

The most efficient would be the system that is properly sized for the space. A 95% efficient unit would lower your gas bill by approximately 15%. So depending on how long you will be in the house this may very well be the lowest budget option for you. At least down the road it will be.

    man aren't we good.

Thanks. I'll be retiring in a year and I am straddling the fence as to whether I'll be keeping my house long term or not.
