    Carrier RTU open

We have several accounts with Carrier rooftops and Carrier controls. The problem is we didn't install or or even work with Carrier controls. So when i get a service call and its not an obvious lockout, I have no idea what is being communicated to the RTU. Management will not send us Techs to the training at the local Carrier Rep. I see this as an issue with any controls setup through Carriers RTU open when the tech has no access to the controls.

Carrier does sell a handheld device called the BACview. It's expensive. Just wondering how you guys are dealing with RTU open, and if anyone has BACview.
    Local 449?

I had one site that used the special Carrier controls. I was able to find no good reason for doing so, since there was no BAS connection. It was a stand alone system with a thermostat and a couple of VAV boxes. No other store in this mall had anything even remotely similar.

Fortunately, the system itself did not fail while we had the store. The failure was moisture getting into the smoke detector in the blower section, which would shut down the unit. We ended up removing that detector and going with return air only.

We were not able to get any insight into the system without paying the big bucks, and for one store, that was not going to happen.

I went to a Carrier controls class. There were salespeople and expert controls people. I am neither. It was just to get on the list to sell their stuff. It seemed user unfriendly and unstable to me. Not thought out. Pitiful in these modern times to make something that looks like 1990's Microsoft made it.
