    Underground traps

Guess the traps didn't meet grade. No problem, right? Just bury them.

Stupid question: Why didn't they make a trench, say, 3" deep x 3" wide, line it with 3" sq. U-channel, and run it the length of the base?

not much else you could do to get them sized right for that unit. the only thing I might have done differently is the trench idea, and turned it into a french drain.

I've had to cut up concrete floors to get traps deep enough.

May be they were hoping to get a little free irrigation for the "herb " garden.

The dirt may have been added after the traps were installed.

Lol. They always forget about the drain traps when setting equipment. Ideally, the concrete pad should have been made higher to allow for the drains. It slipped past someone during the design phase.

They could have just run the lines across the sidewalk and made the trap after the street curb.

    Why not inverted traps?
OK, I apologise, that was bad.

It looks like the sidewalk is brand new, so maybe the traps were buried after installation.

Whole building is actually brand new. This was one of the most unorganized jobs I've been involved in, ever. When the installer called me to come do startup, he said he was ready and under a lot of pressure as the building was going to have a grand opening in less then a week. When I showed up no ductwork was attached to the machine and the controls hadn't been wired yet. I went back to the site, at midnight, the morning of the dedication to just get the blower and heat running. That was December, I've been waiting on the installer to fix a bunch of leaks so I can get the cooling going.

Normally drainage is plumbed together in each section. So traps in every port isn't needed.

I get that rider77, but any of the sections were running a higher negative pressure, couldn't the condensate from one flow to the other causing it to overflow? I may be way out in left field on this one... unless you're talking about tying them all together after the trap.

Most of the machine your looking at is under positive pressure. That said, the drains that are plumbed together drain equally so the traps will all fill.
That said having all these traps is not necessary. But shouldn't hurt anything.

rider77 you stating how disorganized the job was reminded me of a job I was asked to do the air balance on. When I got to the building the windows and doors had not been installed and only the rough-in ductwork was done. I called the installer and told him the building wasn't done and his brilliant answer was "it is closer than it was last week". Sadly enough we have all been there.

OK, sorry, didn't realize those were positive pressure condensate drains. I agree.
