The Selfless Man of Inexhaustible Courage......

Bret's courageous 8 year fight with cancer came to an end last night,2/26/17. He was surrounded by Karen, Andy, his mom Bernice, sister-in-law Anita and me. The room was filled with love as we all held or touched him as he passed.

On Tuesday he was in such pain he spoke with Andy and Karen about contacting Hospice. We admitted him in-patient to Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh on Wednesday afternoon. The staff there are angels! Though it is sad that he left us, we are glad that he did not suffer from Wednesday until Sunday evening and is no longer suffering. He has joined our dad and they're probably working on a car or repairing something in heaven.

I am so proud of Bret...he always thought of others. For the past two years he constantly said, "Let's try it, even if it doesn't help me, the research will improve others' chance of survival." He was always speaking of those he met in Relay for Life, the survivors, those battling and those that cancer took from us. He fought so hard for Karen and Andy...they were his primary concern.

The service will be held on Saturday March 4th, at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian in Cary.

I will miss my brother... Love you Bret...

    Our Sympathies...
Is the Religious Right to blame for Christianity's decline?

They argued that, as the Religious Right became increasingly visible and militant, it became associated with Christianity itself. And if being a Christian meant being associated with the likes of Jerry Falwell, many people—especially political moderates and liberals—decided to simply stop identifying as Christians altogether.

For the record, Steve is Bret's brother. He sent out the above posted paragraph as a kind of email epitaph. I knew that I could never improve on it, so I decided to share it, here.
