    Work boots

Currently in the market for some new boots. Preferably looking for American made. I tend to lean more towards loggers as they help with my back. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Been looking at Chippewa, Justin boots, Thorogood etc. Thanks in advance.

I only wear these. 2 pairs over 6 years. I did put aftermarket steel toe covers on the last pair.

I have been where the black 700 series, and I have been very happy with them. I don't like steel toe, but I put what is called Tough Toe I think on all my boots. Tough Toe is a two part rubber compound, and really makes my boots last. My main boots are by Thorogood. They are light, and hold up well, plus they have my wide foot size. Can't beat the price. If I was standing all day, I would go with Whites because they have more heel, which is better for my back. The main issue for me is getting them re-soled, plus I am on my knees so much the toes get beat down, and they have a hard time re-soling them.

I don't think they have steel shanks in these though. Which is keeping me from buying them.

Heavy boots like "loggers" kill my back, but each person's back issues are a little different. The Chippewas and Thorogoods I have ordered from Midwest boots were excellent. Boot Barn is another source that I have used. http://www.bootbarn.com
It's an upside down world we live in.

Here in Chicago, it's generally accepted that the American-made Red Wing boots are cream of the crop. If you can get to a Red Wing store, I suggest going that route, as different models fit different types of feet better.

Not all of them. I think 2 pairs are US made or assembled here at least.

Yeah, there's a few styles still made in the USA. You'll know it, too, when you look at the price tag. They're fantastic work boots though. Mine have the works -- steel toe, puncture proof, electrical safety soles, Gore-tex, and I even added Tuff Toe to keep the leather, as they can be rebuilt and re-soled by Red Wing for a fraction of the new cost if the leather's good. The Red Wing store gives you a discount if you show them your union card as well.
