You should see them here in Texas. We had crazy hail in March, two storms back to back. Wylie & Plano got nailed, just North of Dallas. They literally had hail the size of softballs crashing through roofs.... including the plywood
Asphalt shingle roofs get ruined by hail more so than metal. Metal may get a little cosmetic damage but it'll, in most average hail storms, protect the house. Usually it doesn't even dent it unless it's a doozy of a hail storm.
the horizontal pattern looks more like it's from a water hose. I see a lot of coils in that condition from people using straight coil cleaner. over time, the aluminium gets soft, then when you spray it with a hose, the fins all fold over.
That unit looks like it has a lot of years under its belt, the coils did get pounded by hail, and it does look
like at one time or another the coils got bent from cleaning.
