    Carrier had EEV decades ago, certainly for larger applications and for chillers thou, there version where called Flotronic expansion values with stepper motor. From the chillers we worked on ( the early Flowtronic ) they where problematic, always tripping on something especially if the charge was off a little or one the many sensors/thermistors where not within calibration.

    Page 20 explain how they worked, possibly not to much different than what would be used on a smaller scale than Commercial systems.

    Todays EEVs seem to be pretty reliable. More reliable then TXVs.
