    Canadian cvs for refrigeration

Hi my name is matthew i have posted on this form before and looked at some other post but. I am 26 years old and started refrigeration just before i was 23. My visa or iec has just been accpeted and now i have 1 year before i have to be in canada or it is cancelled so work work work to save and get expierance as i am out on my own van doing service & maintanence.

So brings me to my question i am looking at how to put my cv out as my wife is very book smart she likes to write them out but she is having trouble shortening it down and she has also joined a canadian form and somone on her forum said she should have it writen like a canadian. We are a little puzzled by this can someone help us out please thanks.

I did have a pic to upload of it but as you all kow no pics until 7 post also im having trouble getting the link to work to get my professional on this instead of regualr member. Thanks

Is a cv like your resume or what?

If so, pm it to me and I can translate it so no one from the British Isles can understand it.

    That is the objective.

You may have to accept Matt as your handle.

Hello again by any chance can you help with some.other questions.

Over in the uk to work on a construction site you need to have a csr card this is a health and saftey course not costing much at £40 and last 3 years. Do you now what your equilavent is of this in canada and should i getbit before i come to canada or as i arrive.

Also beside me getting me refrigerant handling license and getting my license or qualifications that i have here looked at and changed to canadian qualifications. Are there any other licenses you can think of that i might need? Thanks for all the information trying to make sure i have or will jave the best chance to get a job and try to make a go of it on canada

The health and safety fluff can be picked up when you get here every town has a government employment service where they either offer the courses or can point you in the right direction. Any construction site I've ever been on has just asked for a hard hat and safety boots and that both be in good shape and the labour board guys can and will stop you to inspect both. Ontario requires by law what is called Working at Heights training if you are going to be working on rooftops or scaffolding ever since a bunch of construction workers fell off a rickety scaffold and died ruining it for the rest of us. Generally all the certifications and training will tend to vary by what province you end up in it's a big country.

Cornwall is a nice town and a quick drive to Ottawa or Montreal if you have the urge to see something better. Best of luck to you on your move I don't think I'd have it in me to pack up everything and move halfway around the world.

    good luck on your journey.

I hope you can find work in refer trade when you get here. If not that's ok. Try to get any trade experience. Even plant guys which companies will overlook licences because you are only working inhouse. I have lots of family in Ireland and N. Ireland so I know the language difference well but don't think that will be a real issue for you. I think you should start building your Canadian experience right away, anything technical or trade related is good. Even a supply house. A gas licence is an assist here and am sure you would have to start that from scratch but worthwhile to do. Smaller towns outside of Toronto will be much more affordable for you starting out but employment is the challange. The fluff training doesn't matter much as many companies make you do it even though you already have up to date training, liabilities thing.

Send me a message if looking for any help when you are here. If I hear of any opportunities that way I'll send you a message.

Thanks very much gonefishing. Thats the plan going try and get into a refrigeration company even if i dont get to do refrigeration work like i do now and they just want to employee me as a labour i would be happy as long as i get my foot in. Also good thing on the language my dads family is orignal from here and thier kids or my counsins all speak like canadians but not my uncles and aunts.

And iv added you to friend list will chat with you a month before im heading out and see if you have maybe heard of any work going. Been looking alot into getting my license and qualifications recongisned so getting work should be easier byut never now also will have 20k dollars when i arrive hope that will last 6 months as not needing.to spend as uncle and aunt are putting us up.

Bring all the training and working experience with you. Here we have a 5 year apprenticeship(9000 hrs on the job)with 3 in school periods. You can get exempted form some or all of it but seeing as you have only been in the trade for 3 years they won't just give you a full ticket. Regardless you'll have to write the 313A cert. Of Qualification exam for your licence. Again this does not cover gas work at all that a separate license all together. Non union companies may be OK with may a non apprentice helper or labourer. But some companies also have agreements internally, tested company I work for says no person shall touch gauges unless registered as an apprentice. But that is certainly not a reason to be dicouraged. Sounds like you are eager and willing to work to get ahead therefore you will be fine. Most of the people that come here have their hand out expecting the world on my dime. Like I say a refrigeration supply house will offer you access to all the contacts in the industry and also help with terminology. We talk funny here.

Thanks for the information. As you say the refrigeration suppliers are a good place to go to as they are well tied into who are looking what companys are good to go to. I have had difficulty finding some of these i also am planning on buying my tools over there as the ones i have here are old second hand and warren down it will also cost me £150 to just send so i thought it would be easier to just get tools over there u have 1000 dollars to do this.

After december im sending my certifictuites and qualifications with letter from my employers explaining my role and how many hours to ontario college of trades if they accept it then they will let me do the excam which is going to give me a red seal certified certificate which means i will be able to work in refrigeration but this is all depends will no more around april. Talk later enjoy your day
