I will second the comments on taking the NCI class...
Take your thinking cap with you... combustion is not intuitive... it will take some time for it to all sink in.
And yes, it does make one a better tech...
It also teaches folks things which, if they take it seriously, will require condemning more furnaces (as in gas off and red tag).
Nothing like knowing EXACTLY why... that is necessary.

I have an UEI eagle c125. I have been using it for a couple of years and have a few books and lots of articles on combustion analysis. I still feel like I'm learning on every job that I hook it up. I have been using a chart that shows basic ranges where the flue elements should be in, but would like to know more of the chemical reaction

You are experiencing what the rest of us did, and still do!
It is not easy to learn nor understand... takes a while!
I started with a Testo 327...
Now use a Bacharach Insight.
Never tried any of the UEI's... Jim Davis recommended the Bacharach... that was good enough for me.
I have had my CA cert from NCI since 2009... yet every fall I have to brush up on combustion...
There are lots of threads in PRO: Residential to read to get back up to speed...
So get your posts up and get PRO status. What is behind the pro door is HUGE compared to what is in public view.

Thanks for bringing that up about pro status, so what you are saying, is that if I post more, than I can get a pro status on this forum? So are you saying that there is alot that I can't see because of that? So many questions, so little time. Lol

Good question... here is the answer:
One must have 15 posts, with technical content (as opposed to 1-Hi, 2-by, etc... )
Reading your last few posts... I do not see a problem...
Go here:
http://hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread....nal-Membership
Apply... it will take a few weeks, as they ARE gonna vet you... and it is done by volunteers.
And to answer your question... what is in the public area... is like a small orders of fries,
Compared to a triple meat whopper with bacon, cheese, etc... in the Pro section...
Comprende... grin...

Go to the top of the forum...
You will see 'new posts'... and to the left of that: 'HVAC-Talk'... click on that latter one.
Scroll down a bit... One of the entries should be 'how to apply for PRO status.
That is where I got the link.
Alternative: Send me an Email:
Home dot Service (at) CHS dash Inc dot net
Dash mean dash or hyphen, not underscore...
I can send you the link in a return Email.

Good looking puppy BTW...
My second to last call today... a really friendly short and chunky pup, with a PitBull head... was making a nuisance of himself...
Probably because I made the mistake of playing with him.
Soon, a 7 year old boy comes out and keeps the puppy off me... while playing 20 questions about what I was doing.
Makes the day go by faster...

Looks good, I can see that the shoemaker's son doesn't go barefooted at your house
It's not what you're capable of doing that defines you, it's what you do on a daily basis.
