Appion TEZ8
Is the Appion TEZ8 worth the cost? It seems like it works well but I'm not sure about durability and actual evacuation rate. Any input from owners of the TEZ8? I've been happy with my JB Platinum and mega flow hoses.

I have had mine for about two years now. I really like it. I use to have the blue Robinair 6 cfm, it's a really nice pump also. The appion vac pump oil does get in my option more dirty some how and makes you change it, or it will not drop the numbers on your micron gauge, this didn't seem to happen with the Robinair. On the plus side you can see the condition of what's in the cooper with how the oil looks, milky, dirty, or clean. You can change the oil cartridge with the pump running. I like the idea that the oil get dirty and that the inside of the pump stays cleaner than traditional vac pumps. I just appreciate a nice tool, but I don't believe it's that much better than the majority of them out there.
As far as the quickness of vacuum I don't believe that there is any difference with the cfm rating 3-10. It's all in the hoses, and using vcrt. On JB's website they have this. Any vac pump 3-10 cfm is basically all the same in time. When you first turn on the vac pump you are pumping in cfm's then when you hear the pump change sounds you are pumping in molecules. The only difference in a 3 or 10 cfm pump is that short time that you are pumping in cfm's before that pump changes its sound. That is minute. I wouldn't even really count that. So pretty much 3-10 cfm pumps are all the same in my eyes. It's just the bells/whistles, and brand name that you are going to pay for.

One big plus for appion is their customer support. We've had a couple minor issues with our tez8 and haven't had to spend a dime. They've sent replacement parts and a rebuild kit no charge and no questions asked. They stand behind their products in my experience.

I love my TEZ-8, had it for about a year now. I buy the gallon of TEZOM oil and refill my own cartridges, Its so much cheaper that way. I also use the large Appion vacuum hoses and the Appion core tools and can always pull a good vacuum.

Is the tezom oil better to use in all vacuum pumps? Like my JB platinum? I've been using 3/8 hoses for years on my jb pump, 2 short 3" 1/4 pig tails with ball valves, and core removers and I can pull A good fast vacuum with this setup. I wanted to see if the tez8 would be decrease y vacuum time and be worth the investment.

I've always loved them ever since they came out. That being said the company I'm working with in a job just had two poop the bed nib. Perhaps just bad luck? I never had a complaint.

What do you do about the missing grease for input catch?

We use a refrigeration approved silicone grease. It's sold by refrigeration technologies, same company that sells nylog and big blue. Appion said it was fine to use on any of the o-rings.

Oil - easy to replace, easy to see how much water you are pulling out of the system, because you remove the oil once finished it is cleaner less likely to leak all over your truck and so on. It uses literally a 1/4 of the oil other vacuum pumps like the JB's and Robinairs do so you do have to change it more often BUT you are suppose to change the oil after every use anyhow.
Rebuilding - The Appion can be easily rebuilt with new o-rings and so on they sell rebuild kits, JB and Robinair do not.
The vacuum is much faster between the 6 cfm JB and an Appion with 9 cfm IF you have the mega flow kit and are putting them together right. It is worth your time to either get the hose set or build your own. I can pull down a 5 ton split below 500 microns (if there is no leaks obviously) in about 5 - 10 minutes. I have used my Appion TEZ8 and Mega Flow kit to pull down 40 ton systems in 1.5 hours. A 6 CFM pump with 1/4 hoses would have taken all night.
With all that said a 9 cfm vacuum pump is a 9 cfm vacuum pump if you are using the same hose set it isn't going to make it any faster but it makes it much easier. Being able to see the oil as the system is pulling down sure helps you see the contaminants. Changing the oil during the vacuuming process will help speed it up on bigger systems that take longer to vacuum. The more moisture you have in your oil the longer it takes to vacuum.
Is it worth it. To me all day long and twice on Sunday. If you didn't already have it, I would buy the Mega Hose Kit or build one first because that makes a huge difference.
Until recently, I used my Appion about 8 or 9 times a month for 6 years without a problem. Still have it but I'm 100% controls now. I did rebuild it once, not because I had too, because I figured with the amount I had been using it on chillers and large systems I should. Turns out after seeing the old parts it wasn't at all necessary.

Don you use the megaflow manifold? I've had the megaflow kit with the 1/2 hose, valve core removers, short 1/2 hose, ect for the past two years. I just hook the (2) 1/2 hoses to my JB platinum pumps 3/8 ports. I wanted to know of it wad worth getting the tez8 vac pump or just use the tezom vacuum oil in the platinum pump vs the jb gold oil. I like the mega flow manifold because it has ball valve high low side valves.
The only issue in see with the tez8 is the lack of blank off valve. I really want 1/2 braided stainless steel vacuum/charging hoses.

Pump oil is fine, says Appion
As well as being the only refrigeration pump to have its own oil pump!!!
This means you can run the pump all night eventhough your helper left a port open.

We have the tez8 and the mega flow manifold. I used the manifold for about a year and then just started using the 2 3/8×1/4" hoses straight from the tez8 to two appion valve core removers with a third one hooked to the 1/4 port of one to connect the micron meter. That allows me to isolate the system from the pump and then after holding a vacuum to isolate the micron meter from the refrigerant without having to disconnect any hoses or fittings in the process, I'll post a picture later, I'm about to go do it now.

I understand how you connect it. I wish the tez8 had a blank off valve. I hook the micron to the valve core tool with a small 1/4" yj ball valve to isolate it. It also keeps t g e micron gauge as close as possible to the system.

I was disappointed to only get my dv6 Hastings down 25 microns.
How have others done blanked off that is.
I sure dosen't sound like a Vac pump

It's all about flow. Any vacuum pump that can pull down past 50 microns on a blank test is usually adequate to evacuate a system. The tez 8 shines with its multiple ports, keeping everything open with as few restrictions as possible, quick oil changes and great customer service.

Quick oil changes, easy to evacuate a system... All around, a great performer.
My Grandmother used to say "a watched pot never boils..." and I find that to be true with evacuations. Plus or minus 5 minutes isn't going to break me. I use the time to get organized and ready for the next task at hand.

Hi guys, just picked up a used Appion Tez 8. I haven't had a chance to do much more than flush the oil (Appion flushing process). After the flush I wiped it all down and left it on a bench with no oil in the bottle. I noticed oil leaking from it onto the bench today. It seems to be dripping from above the bottle because the bracket and around t were oily and i know I wiped it down. I haven't opened it up yet, but I thought I'd ask here first. Could this be an O-ring?
