Then there was the time I had finished up an A/C job at a wood processing plant and drove 50 miles to my next job at a restaurant. Needed my Fluke, but when I looked in the van it wasn't there. Then I remembered that I set it on the roof while I put my ladder away at the last job.

I was just sick. Just for heck of it, I looked on the roof and there was my meter, right where I left it 50 miles ago.

Got to love Flukes rubberized coating!

    Well, for all you Fluke guys and gals... I guess there is no hope for me;

I just bought a FieldPiece SC77. This will be my backup for the SC76 that has served me well for many years.

Yeah, I just do residential, I guess all I 'need' is a FP...

As we all know, it is just not cool (or heat ) to have one's meter fritz out on the job... so a backup is a good idea. But the cheapy backup I had did fritz out, before the FP did... go figure.

I am a self confessed Fluke acholic. That said I use my Fluke 902 everyday. My backup in my Veto XL is a Fluke 116, along with 2 pipe clamps from Fluke and my 2 Fluke volt sticks one for low voltage and one for high. For temperature reading I use my Fluke 52 with a varity of probes.

    Best All Purpose Clamp Meter?

Im looking for a realiable durable multi-functional meter.. after reading all the top clamp meters im stuck because between Fluke,UEI and Fieldpiece Ive read good and bad.for the widest range of functions versatily Id pick the UEI DL389 Phoenix Pro+ my second was the Fieldpiece SC77 or HS36 ...with True RMS now I know that the Flukes 902 is great - Acurite, durable but it does not have near as many features as the other two does. Im looking for a All-In-One type Clamp Meter
also with the improvements in theres new top rated meters have they improved the moter startup Amps or Quick Voltage checks? also Ive read of durablity problems with the UEIs but have a HVAC workmate that swears by his and its lasted him for years when the others have not this confuses me after reading the contrary in the forums can someone tell me there opinion and experances about this.... thank you

BTY Im only using this Clamp Meter for Residential and light Commercial Usage Only!

My current in truck Fuke collection is made up of the following.
    Fluke 88
    Fluke 16
    Fluke 322 Clamp
    Fluke 36 Clamp
    Fluke 52 Dual Temp Thermometer
    Fluke 1AC-II Volt Alert
    Fluke 1LAC Low Volt Alert

My next purchase will be a FLuke 1587 Insulation Tester.
This will allow me to retire both the 88 and the 16 from the service truck.

All of my meters are older. Fluke: 77II,79II,85,12,33,52, 2 amp clamps (the 400 amp and the 600, cant remember mods#) also have an Extech temp meter I got when my 52 was in the shop, this is a pretty good temp meter. Have a Amprobe hand crank megger. I can also dig up a digital Sperry clamp meter and an amprobe analog clamp. Any of the newer Fluke meters have a Lifetime warranty. Silly to buy anything else in my opinion. There have been a couple of occasions where I needed more than one meter while troubleshooting, that will explain why I have so many.

One great but not very well known Fluke is the 27.

It's completely waterproof to 3' for over an hour.
    It's also MIL-STD-28800 Class2 Style A and MSHA approved.
The company I previously worked for supplied us all with one.
No capacitance but you could stand in the rain all day long and not worry if your meter would be harmed.

I use the hs36 as a everday meter in my veto

And bust out the Fluke when I havee to do some serious troubleshooting

    Both are great meters.
