Samsung heat pumps put out at 5 degrees F?

Look at the PDF first page under 'controls'

It says it can heat at an ambient of 5 degrees farenheit.

Anybody with a little experience or an inside contact know how well they HEAT at the lower ambients? Installations at higher lattitudes, NJ, NY, PA for example that went well?

Most of the newer mini splits advertise heating down to plus five. With the electronics onboard and vfd's for the compressors and indoor fans, they can provide some amount of heat. Each brand will vary, but they should be able to give you an amount in btu's. I use Daikin for those apps, and it does work to some degree, but capacity is deminished.

THe samsung people in that pdf say 'if you install it in a low ambient setting, and it is not good enough to heat the space, we suggest an alternate source of heat'

DUH!!

Nothing like having to come back and install additional electric baseboard to suppliment the 20 seer mini split I sold them to improve my reputation.

I couldn't find any numbers on actual output under those conditions.

Does Daikin give you any specifics?

Where are you located? For design condition comparisons.

Mitsubishi says 12 degrees I believe, but no diagram of output vs ambient.

Design temp is about 10 around here, but it does get colder on occasion.

I'm looking to try a few of these on installs up here in NYC area, but have held off till now because i don't want my phone ringing on the one day per year it hits 5-0 degrees.
