Well, the NASA webcast wasn't very helpful. After launch, it only showed the control room.

The best coverage was from the two YouTube websites and Spaceflight Now.

Looks like SpaceX left its webcast in the hands of Livestream, without putting it on its own website. Livestream sent the stream to YouTube instead.

I received these links via email from Livestream, but failed to check them before the launch:

Maybe SpaceX could make a drone ship more like a semi-sub oil rig, so that the deck assembly is above the waves.

    Dragon 2 Propulsive Hover Test

On November 24, SpaceX’s Dragon 2, powered by eight SuperDraco engines, executed a picture-perfect propulsive hover test at the company’s rocket development facility in McGregor, Texas.

Eight SuperDraco thrusters, positioned around the perimeter of the vehicle in pairs called “jet packs”, fired up simultaneously to raise the Crew Dragon spacecraft for a five-second hover, generating approximately 33,000 lbs of thrust before returning the vehicle to its resting position. This test was the second of a two-part milestone under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The first test—a short firing of the engines intended to verify a healthy propulsion system—was completed November 22, and the longer burn two-days later demonstrated vehicle control while hovering.

SES says SpaceX will launch its satellite in late February

SpaceX’s next launch from Cape Canaveral is set for Feb. 24, when a Falcon 9 rocket will carry a commercial television broadcasting satellite aloft for Luxembourg-based SES, the payload’s owner announced Monday.

The flight from SpaceX’s Complex 40 launch pad will be the first of more than a dozen missions the company plans from Cape Canaveral this year, and the second launch of an upgraded Falcon 9 rocket that debuted in December.

The Falcon 9’s launch window Feb. 24 opens at 6:46 p.m. EST (2346 GMT).
    ...
Because the Falcon 9 rocket will deploy SES 9 into a different orbit, the launcher will need to go higher and faster after liftoff.

A SpaceX official said the company still plans to attempt to land the first stage after the SES 9 launch, but profile change means there will be a lower chance of recovering it. SpaceX has tried landing Falcon 9 first stage boosters on football field-sized ships three times, but the rocket has not survived intact.

    Fascinating.

I watched the web feed of SpaceX sticking the landing in Florida. It was marvelous; it made me feel like when I was a kid watching the Apollo moon landings.

Last time around they didn't stick the landing because of a part failure. Fingers crossed for success this time around. Reusable rockets will be a great stopgap measure until we agree on a proper non-rocket propulsion method and make it happen.
