Confused Staefa PC Tool 4.0 for Smart 2 Controllers

I have a customer with several Staefa smart 2 controllers which have been integrated into Niagara Ax and there is no other Staefa software onsite. This Customer needs ( is required to have quarterly) field calibration checks on all inputs and outputs ,this has always been done with their Steafa hand held device which is now missing from the site . We are desperately in need of the Staefa PC Tools software and cable pin out to create a new patch cable. We have several old laptops running XP with 9pin serial ports available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Debug69

I'm in the same boat here, there is one Smart2 service tool on the plant side but the engineer is a little territorial; he takes hour lunches, takes the service tool with him, and I have a very limited time frame in which to get these buildings back to some state of normalcy. Is there some link that still exists out there to a download for the Staefa PCtool?

The pinout has been posted before, but here it is again both for the Smart II cards and the Trunk cards.

PCTOOL PIN OUT (PCTOOL-CBL) For Smart II Cards

    DB9 RJ25
    1 Jumper 1
    2 RxD <---- 2 TxD
    3 TxD ----> 3 RxD
    4 Jumper 1
    5 SG ----- 5 & 4 SG
    6 Jumper 1
    7 Jumper 2
    8 Jumper 2
    9 NC

PCTOOL PIN OUT (AETI-232) For trunk card (NCRS)

    DB9 RJ25
    1 Jumper 1
    2 RxD <---- 5 TxD
    3 TxD ----> 2 RxD
    4 Jumper 1
    5 SG ----- 3 SG
    6 Jumper 1
    7 Jumper 2
    8 Jumper 2
    9 NC

    1 DCD \
    4 DTR | connected together
    6 DSR /

    7 RTS \ connected together
    8 CTS /

I have only tried this with the flow control jumpers, it may or may not work without the jumpers.

NOTE: RJ11, RJ14, RJ25/RJ12 are the same physical size (6 position). RJ45 is larger (8 position), usually used for network connection (Ethernet).

I've noticed newer laptops that do have internal serial ports are usually just USB-Serial adapters using either FTDI or Prolific chip sets, our Dell Rugged Latitude XFR E6420 falls into this category. I've had problems with these types of chipsets connecting to Smart II cards and Trunk cards as well as other equipment. I've had great success with the Tripplite Keyspan USA-19HS USB-Serial adapter, which uses a Texas Instruments chipset and it's fairly cheap! I've used this Keyspan adapter with Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7 as the host computer, while running Windows 98SE, DOS 6.22 or Windows 3.11 as a virtual machine (both in DOSBox and VMWare) with both MS1800 1.3-0 and PCTool 5.0-0 as well as other old software. I don't have PCTool 4.0, but I'm sure it would work too.

Staefa PC Tool 4.0 for Smart 2 Controllers and other technical questions

I also have need of a copy of Staefa PC Tool 4.0. If anyone has it available, it would be much appreciated. I am desperate so I appreciate the help.

Also, for the older Staefa Smart II controllers that have had a field installed pressure sensor installed to an input (for example to control the flow set point on a lab exhaust terminal unit controller based upon room pressure) does the MUX panel see the pressure sensor input and have the exhaust flow set point written to it from the MUX, or is the logic in the Smart II? Thanks for any assistance.

Controlgeek, I could use a copy of this program as well if you wouldn't mind. I've been asked about supporting some Staefa Smart II controllers in the ORs of a hospital and would like to help the requester. We only have to support them for a year.

For those with trouble making it work using D-Fend Reloaded, which includes DOS BOX makes it play much nicer with your modern laptop. Atkinson has a nice little guide http://atkinsonelectronics.com/techC...er.asp?pd=1203
