Good old Heat Seal equipment awakes some memories. Vacuum was so strong that when the hose got attached to a wall you could hardly get it off!

Interestingly enough the vacuum really doesn't do the cleaning but rather just becomes the method of transporting any particulate matter to the filter(s) on the truck. It is the mechanical forces exerted by various tools and the pressurized air which agitates and dislodges dust and debris.

Best thing ever found: Wedding ring which got lost. The lady of the house always suspected a helping friend which was in the house at the same time but never had the guts to mentioned anything to him. When I showed her the ring I found while cutting an access opening into the cold air return duct, she started crying, partly because of relive and partly for falsely accusing her friend.

Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts.
