In Ontario you can also apprentice as a gas technician. It is a 5400 hr apprentice as opposed to refrigeration which is a 9000 hr apprenticeship. I do not know of anyone who has done this though. The courses take 760 hrs of class time to complete (280 hrs for g3 and 480 hrs for g2) Some people also take a pre apprenticeship course at college which also teaches gas and oil. After completing the one year program you have an opportunity to get a g2 and obt 2 (oil technician) if you pass the required exams. The g1 takes 140 hrs to complete after which you write another exam.
