Rtac low oil flow
I have a Trane rtac155 tripping on low oil flow. Will run 8-10 hrs without tripping.Alarms occurred at night and early morning. I've checked all my transducers to ensure they are calibrated. I've checked my oil flow formula and at 66%rla it's at .15 and at 90%rla it's at .08 which far off from the .25 trip limit so I believe I have a clean oil filter. I also checked the oil level in the oil separator which was good. Also checked to make sure all my cond. fans are running.
It seems like when the compressor is running at a higher percentage the oil flow gets further away from trip limit.
Perhaps something is going on when the compressor is running at a lower load at night.
I wanted to try raising the cw setpoint and watch it unload after its been running for a while to see if I could catch anything.
I could be way off but any advice is very appreciated THANKS!

I am also new to this forum hopefully I'm posting this in the right place thanks

Are you sure one of your transducers isn't intermittently swaying out of calibration?
More than likely your oil filter is clogging up. It is not uncommon when the chiller ages. I would replace the filter anyway.

it is recommended to replace the oil filter after the first year of operation . after that its changed on an as needed basis .if its never been changed then change it .

Post a Log before and after you clean the condenser coils. And I don't mean hit it with a water hose to knock the surface dirt off, deep clean it.

Oil filter & connections on the transducers & even transducers... I had a similar problem where it runs beautifully for hours, then for no apparent reason it failed on oil flow!!
Do you have a spare laptop? You can leave it connected, check the techview logs & the pressure spike will certainly be noted...

Thanks everyone for your input! I'll keep you guys updated whenever I get back to make the repair

I handle alot of trane chiller but I have been unable to solve a problem on my RTAC 275 tripping on low oil flow. I have change the oil filter and even the complete compressor 2a. I will appreciate it if I can get a lasting solution.

Love it when guys just change parts to fix a problem , go ahead change the compressor that'll fix it , while your at it put a new evaporator in would ya' ???

i have a rtac that trips circuit 1 when unloaded at night. ratio is around .105 during day wth loaded.
Im getting ready to open system to look at the flow regulator in the compressor..
-
I would pull and weight charge
Chillers are always leaking
Start there

we ended up changing the screen. it was pretty gunked up.

Hi guys I am Irfan just new member on HVAC talk. Whatever, if we have facing (low oil flow ) tripping then relax and check oil pressure transducer and also oil filter of compressor. Check it carefully after we can decide that what should be replace. That's it.

Good day, I have a Trane RTAC 375 chiller that has been working for 6 years now, the chiller is being maintained regularly, but the maintainer technician has never change the compressor oil filter, or the drier for the past 6yrs he has been maintaining the chiller. Pls I want to ask how often should one change the oil filter, check oil level?
-
Oil and filter should not be changed unless oil analysis says to or filter is clogged to the point of tripping the compressor on low oil flow.

Replace oil filter and the check valve behind the oil filter.
