Prolly a recip compressor your installing. I believe it's just another port to your suction side of the compressor. You can either braze it shut or braze a fitting on so u can gauge up there.
At least not the orange pumpkins, with rotolocks.

The old Tranes are a GE design. Many of those compressors are similar to later Trane compressors, and look like a large inverted acorn. Not your typical Bristol recip.

Update on using 5ton compressor. The old compressor was 7.5 and we replaced with 5 ton and used same txv used for 7.5 ton and also used 422d instead of r-22. The system works great as all was need was a temp to 68-65 and the running compressor on a 90 degree day got the rooms down to 69. It seemed when I was charging system which called for 14 pounds I have to charge 17 pounds and finally stopped after an hour with superheat of 13.6 degrees. I was thinking it would have taken less refrigerant
