    sealright hoses

I foolishly bought a couple sets of these hoses years ago when I was still in school. Never realizing that they aren't recommended for use with 410a.

I actually really like the hoses; but they basically all started to leak at the sealright ends.

I went to the yellow jacket website, and I noticed that the disclaimer about not using the hoses with 410a was gone, and if I'm not mistaken, a new bullet point about the seals being resistant to deterioration from all existing refrigerants and oils.

Does this mean if I buy the rebuild kits I can expect to see much more durability in the field? Or have I made an incorrect assumption and I just need to purchase some ball valve hoses?

ive had problems with these as well, switched to ball valves and like them better. if its been years tho isn't it fair to say that you would have to replace the o rings from normal wear and age anyways tho? also eventually the ball valves start leaking around where they crimp to the hose, so I would say stick with those if you prefer them.

Well, I've owned one set since 2008, and then bought another set in 2012. they really weren't put into use until I started in the trade in late 2012. I can accept the older set being dry rotted or something of that nature. They started leaking after daily use for about 9 months I'd say.

I use them for all refrigerants, 22, 410a, 134a, 404a, etc., so I figured that was my main issue since yellow jacket had that little disclaimer about 410.

They always leak at the most inopportune time, pressure tests and pulling vacuum!

its possible...was the warning for 410a or for poe oils? if deteriation from oil is the issue I would have thought they would warn against poe, the oil used in 410a and other newer refrigerant systems. what pressures were they rated for? maybe they were not suitable for 410a due to them not being rated for the higher pressures, and that was the issue?

I specifically remember the warning being for 410a, with no mention of oil. The hoses themselves are rated for 800psi operating pressure and 2000psi burst pressure. Or maybe that was 2000psi operating and 8000psi burst. I can believe the fittings not liking that high of a pressure, but based on how mine are leaking, its more on how the spring re-seats itself; which I feel would be a failure different from that of a pressure related failure.

They really only leak most of the time, not all of the time <g>

I was hoping a yellow jacket representative would chime in with some wisdom on the subject, but perhaps they only operate on these forums during business hours.

R-410 Designation Change on YELLOW JACKET SealRight Hose

We used to designate our SealRight Couplers as "not recommended for R-410A systems" because our recommended low-loss hose fitting for R-410A systems is our compact ball valve hose. It is easy to connect to the system port with an adjustable valve opener, and the flow through the hose can be controlled at any time with a simple quarter-turn of the ball valve.

The use of our PLUS II Hoses with SealRight fittings is an acceptable substitute for R-410 system. R-410A pressures can make this valve a little more difficult to open and close, but when compared to others on the market, we feel ours is the easiest to actuate. This is due mainly to the larger diameter, heavily knurled nut on the SealRight coupler. It also has a higher vapor/liquid refrigerant and evacuation flow rate, depresses valve cores farther, and is part of a UL Recognized hose assembly.

Thank you for responding. I decided to invest in repairing my hoses, and all but a couple are back to their former glory. I just need to order a few more seal kits.

I always had a tough time finding the parts in the supply houses. There's just no demand for them so the parts guys don't keep more than one or two laying around it seems. Look up the yellow jacket part numbers from the website and order them from Amazon.

I assume you're speaking of the 69562 oil injector? I've always gotten o-rings for my sealrights at Home Depot; I found a kit with assorted green o-rings at Advance Auto. Works as well as the original. Actually, maybe better.

Any parts house that doesn't have several packets of the hose gaskets on hand is just a pi$$ poor parts house, especially in S FL.

When a supply house says "We don't have that", the next words out of their mouth should be, "But, we can get it for you". If not, they've lost me as a patron.

Gene, please respond with your zip code and we'll see if there are any suppliers in your area who have the rebuild kits in stock. The part numbers can be found on this page - click on the UPC tab and page the bottom: www.yellowjacket.com/product/727.

From my experience the newer low loss YJ hoses are terrible the older hoses would even hold a vacuum

What's the date threshold for your claim? I just rebuilt my hoses that were from 2008 and another set from 2012 and both sets held a vacuum when I tested that. Didn't throw a micron gauge on them, but I did perform the ol' listen for the pump to change sounds trick. I don't use them for pulling a vacuum anyways.

I have always used the seal-right adapter on a standard hi-side hose with good results, and I carry a spare. The most common failure is just the o-ring, and fortunately we have a local supplier that keeps them in 10-packs right next to the packs of regular hose gaskets.

Usually when the valve itself pukes I have found that the seal has just come unseated - pull it apart, shove everything back home, and it's good for another 100,000. I have put the rebuild kit in once or twice, though.

The biggest thing for me is that the valve never sees over 400 psi when going on or off - I'll bleed back through the low side as I'm pulling my high side hose off if I need to.

What are you working on that your hoses see 400psi? The discharge line of a 4 seer 410a unit?

No... 13 seer or better. 95 or 100 degrees outside in cooling, or a mild to warm day in heating...
