Interesting that you say it's not an ozone generator when in fact Health Cananda states that it is and that Ecoquest is unable to sell their products in Canada or get CSA Approval.

    http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/media...99_62bk_e.html

A full spectrum lamp produces much more ozone than just a UVA or UVB or UVC spectrum lamp. What's your guidelines on replacing the PHI cell?

Why if Ecoquest claims they have the perfect product would be phasing out the ozone lamps?

Really Kieth, that is why we have 5,000 canadian dealers. The low oxidation RCI cell is entella certified and sold in Canada as a non producing device despite the bulb still produces ozone. Once again, research! Canada is our biggest expansion over the last couple years...well actually Austraillia is but Canada was second. They did however throw us out in 99 but it has since been taken care of with RCI...enough with the outdated material!

In 1999 RCI didn't even exist and we only sold Alpines ozone generators. This is the problem. People like you who don't read the dates on things...like the FTC issue too. We have shown enough proof to be able to legaly claim everything banned in the suit except that it heals anything cuz it doesn't but if it gets rid of what is irritating you then you get better. The web is a dangerous place for people like you who don't factor in the context of when it was written, especially when we are debating a technology that is only 5 yrs old and you are posting 10 yr old articles. How is any of that relevant? It isn't, you are just trying to make EQ look bad and that is sad. If you actually researched the company you would feel otherwise I promise. They are a Christian company and unlike most "Christian companys" they actually conduct themselves like one. Though they still make mistakes, after all we are all human, I think.

Every 3 yrs the light and cell need to be replace. I think it is about $115 total replacement (fresh air 6" and upkeep. 9" PHI replacement is $100 I think and the RGF 14 inch I think is $118 I get RGF products cheaper than RGF distributer because of the deal EQ made with them and I am an associate mgr with EQ. I haven't been a dealer for 3 yrs so I haven't ordered any replacements yet. They were cheap enough though.

Kev, correction though RCI and PHI are photocatalytic oxidation type technology it is known as Photo Plasma and differes from PCO in that at 100nm the UV burns the air creating the ozone and the other PCO processes break down the newly generated ozone along with the moisture to create a greater number of oxidisers. I know some would disagree with me but that is how I understand it. Like the formaldehyde issue. Everyone argues that PCO's create it but studies show ours destroys it.

Most PCO's use a 254nm bacteriacidal bulb. ours is 100nm-300nm with a 25,000hr active life. The light may last longer but wont work as well.

I was sorry to learn that you have been diagnosed with COPD. You know my opinions on anything that generates ozone around people with respiratory illnesses, so I won't give you any advice. You know the risks as well as anyone. Just take care.

We never claimed that our tests on the RCI/PHI technology were comprehensive. Our goal was to determine 3 things: Is this technology effective at removing particles? Does it produce ozone? Does it produce the desired positive results with indoor air chemistry?

The answers were: It is not very effective at removing particles. It does produce significant quantities of ozone. It wreaks havoc with indoor air chemistry producing unintended and undesirable results.

breathe easy are you with txairfilters? If so good to meet you, I'm in fort worth as well. Maybe we can meet in person one day. Sanuvox liked the article posted on your website inspired by RGF.

    McGill Study

I have a third party study performed by a University with no funding from the manufacturer.

It's a study by McGill University and published in the Lancet Journal. However, it is not a study of UV on the air stream, it is a study of UV on coil surfaces. Some very small side effect is air purification to a point. You cannot rely on a UV light treating an object to be a good source of Air Purification (two scientific principles at work here). In addition, the study was done with the UV lights placed on the upstream side of the coil, not the downstream where there is moisture and water.

I have many studies actually I can share. I also have every test and results of the 9 companies tested by the EPA and Homeland Security specifically on using UV to purify the air stream. I can post those later.

    Here's the McGill Study.

If you're curious and want to experiment, you may want to try a Carbonaire cylinder with 40 lbs of activated carbon (and a fan) or something similar (I have no relation to Carbonaire, I simply own one and it works for me). I guess that's as much the opposite of RCI as you can get, and it should also remove some of the outside pollutants that leak into your house. Perhaps it will remove those that you are sensitive to.

If there is no improvement I will. I am trying to avoid having to spend as much as possible cuz the meds are expensive and I have $2100. worth of RCI devices presently. I will definitly consider it if I think these aren't working. Would probably help anyway since the FA isn't the best on particles as BE pointed out. My HVAC system is disgusting and needs to be cleaned as well so I have to get on maintainace to get off their butts and take care of it. Apparently this complex doesn't believe in putting filters in their systems...looks like soil almost in the base it is so thick. It's a nice apt too but I guess if you can't see it , then it isn't there... is their mentality. Thank you for the suggestion. If you don't mind me asking what is the pricetag on one and maintainance?

NHMoldInspector, the Carbonaire isn't a good fit for apts because it's ugly, bulky, and needs ductwork (sorry, not sure why I assumed you lived in a house! That was silly of me). See http://www.gchydro.com/Carbonaire+Carbon+Filters.html and then you add an inline blower fan to it (e.g., Fantech. You may find it cheaper elsewhere). How long it lasts depends on a lot of things but I'm hoping to have to replace mine only once/year, running it continuously (keeping the fan of course). In an apt I guess you'd have to buy a standalone VOC filter like an Austin Air with a carbon/zeolite filter or an IQair. They're expensive but I figure we have only one pair of lungs so it's worth it, and there can be no risk in using those filters.

ya, you are right. The wife and I are looking into buying a house but we just got married last Nov and we can't agree on a permanent place. I want ta go to TX and she wants to stay in NH...we will probably stay here. Since I have unverifyable income we had to go a year depositing our money in the bank so it keeps a record that we can take to a mortgage broker. So I will keep that in mind. I do have some sort of HVAC system but our lease is up in Dec and I am not sure what we are gonna do. Will be too early to get a house so we might go another year....all up in the air right now. She confuses me more everytime she talks about it. She'll give 30 different scenarios at night when i'm half passed out so i just mumble yup to everything. Heck I could have agreed to gettin neutered for all I know...lol

I just looked at the Sanuvox website. What is the EPA logo doing on your site? I realize the EPA did some testing and included Sanuvox products. The Sanuvox products did well (as did some others). However, it looks like an endorsement. The EPA does not endorse products.

Here you have excellent products, have been involved in some of the most important studies on UV lights and have a good reputation. Then some marketing guy does this.

What is it about writing marketing copy? I think it changes peoples personality. Maybe somebody should invent a marketing guy Pinochio test. Every one of their noses would be two feet long.

    Breathe easy,

You're right. I didn't notice it, mainly because I work for them. I saw it as a way to have people read the study, but never thought of it in people believing we were trying to show an endorsement.

I will talk to the VP of marketing and share your thoughts with him.

Thanks, and I'm in oklahoma this week, so will give you a call when I'm back next week.

Also, I didn't get your name. you can email me at

    Thanks,

    Keith

So does PHI work or not?

I attended one of RGF's seminars last year and was tempted to try thier stuff.

What is EQ - some sort of MLM PHI derivitive company?

PHI and RCI work there is just some question of chemical interactions with houshold cleaners...some would say they don't work but I have said it more than once that when ever I lend out my unit the mold grows on my shower curtain. EQ is Ecoquest. They are a MLM that bought RGF's light industrial and residential division so they offer all of RGF's PHI based products and RCI which was PHI's upgrade that RGF invented. It has a lot more surface space and more oxidation so it is just faster. EQ dealers pay the same price as RGF distributers but because we are mlm I can sign you up and you save $100-200 per item instead of going to an RGF distributer and getting a marked up price. Because it is mlm, the more you buy over time the cheaper it gets. Plus if Say I turned you on to it and signed you up for 25 bucks, because I am an associate mgr level I get 20%+ of your purchase. So you save a lot and I make money. However because there are 600,000 registered EQ dealers...only about 5,000 that are regularly selling, you often find new dealers who distort facts by accident and even make the customer uncomfortable (I am talking a Fresh Air cuz it is RCI and ozone together and you can adjust the ozone or turn it off but it can make the client uncomfortable if turned up too fast.) Anyway, they need to do a lot more testing but I say hands down that it works well...not for particles but for killing germs and mold and destroying odors....we just don't know all that it is doing. The guy directly above me Owns Dickenson and Sons. I believe he is an HVAC engineer and he swears by them....just depends who you ask. I would say try one yourself. Rather than cutting a hole in the plenum to try, just call Ecoquest and get a free trial of a Fresh Air. The 6" RCI cell in it will do more than a 9" PHI anyway so it is about a decent comparison of what it will be like. Then at the end of the 3-5 days give the unit back and buy what you need. I would go with the EQ Ductworx over a PHI anyday...I think it was just redesigned to be better than it was and it was far better than PHI already. RGF needed us because they have a crappy sales force. Their Middleastern dealer di $0 business last year. Sure the SARS in Cjhina was one big order but they just don't have the sales force...which is why they sold RCI to us. Ron Finch on Finck(can't remember) is in a video when they presented RCI to Mike Jackson and he went through why it was a far superiopr product then PHI. PHI will do the exact same thing....just it will take a lot longer to do it in. A 14" RCI Cell has 10x the surface space for the light reactions on the matrix over a 14" PHI

I have a question. Why would the majority of UV companies produce bulbs upwards of 5 feet in length if all they needed was a 6", 9", or 14" bulb to achieve the same kill rate?

Yea we are covered up. I'm in Louisville KY working on that river boat for Caesars Palace this week and have another casino on the way home to look at. That picture in my avatar is one of many air handlers in a VA Hospital I just finished.
