This isn't a direct answer, but it's a recent related article.
Elon Musk: Tesla Powerpack Doesn't Need Renewables, Battery Market 'Staggeringly Gigantic'
When Tesla Motors TSLA -8.88% CEO Elon Musk announced a cheap utility-scale battery this spring, the Tesla Powerpack was seen by some as the solution solar and wind energy have long needed to complement their variable performance.
But that doesn’t mean Tesla needs renewables to sell batteries, founder and CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday.
“It seems like people link this too much to renewable energy,” Musk said during Tesla’s Second Quarter earnings call. “Of course we are great believers in renewable energy, but that is not the gating function for stationary storage.”
Ultimately, said Musk, storage allows utilities to turn off power plants or defer new ones.

Why is he a jerk? Is it because he is wealthier than you?
-
Maybe, but it was mostly that little word that cost his shareholders 3 billion dollars! I would say that makes him a jerk!
-
Oh, And BTW part of the 3B is his own money! A bigger jerk!

Makes me think of the time , what's his name Farr from Emerson blamed the government on missing the numbers! Meanwhile other companies in the sector had blowout numbers! And it's the critics?

We have people here who think Apple is "Trendy"! Well if that is so Tesla is 10X that!
-
Yes , just looked it up! TRW bought at $65 sold at $106 , short term holding!
-
Now on Emerson after he made that statement I sold it ! If I remember right I was up about 7k and it went down about 3 or 4k on that! And that is what I got. I than bought Eaton which did great. Only sold it a few days ago. I felt bad about it because it was one of our companies . I told the guys from Copeland at a trade show about it.

I never remarked on this post but I live in a big state and can't imagine having a car that stops dead wherever and I can't call for help except a tow truck. This idea didn't work in the turn of the 19th century and it won't work today except for some amazing thing in battery science. Tell me about a battery that will give the same as a tank of gas, just as cheap, and on every street corner.
gasoline is a amazing product. It takes two gallons of gasoline to produce and refine and deliver to the consumer one gallon of gasoline.
Today gasoline motors deliver more efficiency and horse than they ever have. Twice as much by most standers of 30 years ago. A formula one engine can produce 700 horse power on less than 200 liters. don't hold me to those exact numbers as rules change. It's just that back when we wished for one HP/cubic inch.
I think Ol ED just might be just another flim flam man. It happens all the time. He recently promised New Mexico the world, built a building, bought a drone factory here then changed his mind and split. Way too flush with money to do anything except to do The Donald or Howard Hugues thing.

Just for The Record: a 200 liter engine would be over 12,000 cubic inches. So 700HP is a pretty relaxed output. <g>
Wait; did you mean Two Liters? 2.00 Liters? If so then that 700HP is Way more impressive.

I was sort of intrigued by the idea of an electric car that I could just plug in to charge at home. I have a car now that the little woman drives 10 miles each way to work and sometimes 2 miles each way to the grocery store. I take her to dinner in it at least once a week and that is about 20 miles each way. It gets about 34 mpg and never breaks down.
So an electric car would work for me . . . . except that say; one day we want to go to the beach: 75 miles each way. A few weeks ago we drove out to western Maryland to a golf / casino called Rocky Gap. 200 miles each way.
So what would I do; call Enterprise anytime I wanted to go more than the range of my electric car? OR would I have to maintain a second gas powered car - just for longer trips? <g>
I thought the absolute best part about having an electric car was going to be to have a big bumper sticker on the back:
This car is powered by Coal!

Chevy volt.
I have a 55 mile round trip commute and get an average electric range of 48 miles. Once the battery is drained the gas engine starts and powers the car for around 40 mpg.
Correcting for the electricity I buy, it averages 125 mpg. As for reliability, it is currently at 108,000 miles with zero problems and no noticeable battery degradation.
I bought it used so didn't get any government subsidy or rebate, but it was a good investment so far.

Ya I missed the decimal point. BTW the decimal point is one of my large complaints. As important as it is why is it so small? I think it should be at least as large as the numbers.
