Sounds to me like its either non condensable in the system or the TXV has taken a crap right off the bat.
Low SH generally indicates overfeeding or at least enough refrigerant, are you measuring SH at the coil or at the comp?
Does this unit have a TXV?
If he puts 200 PSI of nitro in there and it stays at 200 PSI for 20 minutes, i'll be surprised.
What did the tech do to find a leak? I'm assuming he did a pressure test.
I don't think the refrigerant could leave the system and then reseal itself, I can't think of a way that's possible.
...
If it's a cap tube and you overcharged, the SH should go down, could be a partially plugged cap tube.
IF you put too much in with a cap tube, the SH will drop until it's 0, I just went through...
While charging or while running it's icing up?
Aaaaaah.
I'm pretty sure that under no circiumstances should your unit have a leak that big on any sort of "regular" basis.
sounds like it was deisnged incredibly poorly if that's the case, but...
Good deal, yeah I like my SMAN's but I moved over to the Testo bluetooth stubs with CRT's pretty much completely, I just prefer that over the gauges. I got the Testo micron gauge as well, super...
On the Fieldpiece, if you have an SMAN, they are definetley servicable, I just replaced my valves 1 month ago or so.
I have an SMAN360
Interesting,
407 is super cheap though, sheesh, under 200 for a jug.
That's great, then that could be the one.
My local UR stocks only 407, they don't sell MO99.
Is that like a marketing thing that 407 won over MO99 or?
Okay, good to know.
Most of the systems we have I believe are 10 years and older, unfortunately.
Okay, makes sense.
But if your uncertain as to wether its Mineral Oil or POE, having a refrigerant that can do both would be ideal.
It seems from the retrofit instructions that MO99 can also...
Great....
So I guess a refrigerant which does POE & MO would be ideal then, I'll have to look at the retrofit charts and see what's available for that, if that exists.
Good to know.
Can R22 be run in MO and POE?
I guess it could....
Why can't it be simple.
Thank you for the replys,
I figured MO99 is the best option for mineral oil systems, I did some thinking with some pressure enthalpy charts here yesterday, they seem to perform very similar....
Howdy everyone,
I was tasked with doing some research on retrofit refrigerants for R22 systems, both for walk in coolers and residential A/C since we kind of do it all, except for chillers.
I...
Still need numbers to make any sense out of it.
The coil only freezes if the coil is below freezing.... so either your low side is too low or your airflow sucks and there’s not enough heat...
Well, I started out when I was 16, wanting to do IT or programming work, then landing an apprenticeship I came to realize that kind of work would bore me to death over time, being stuck at a desk.

Sandshark,
The chrome is the first to go when you weld stainless, if you cook it when Tigging, it'll rust. It's a delicate metal in that regard.
You could possibly weld it the way you want, but...
I got it,
Regardless, you need a high side pressure tap, you cannot diagnose or do a proper startup without it.
low side is just one half, if the other half is unhappy, it'll kill the system.
...
I've TIG welded using silica bronze rod but I don't think oxy/acetylene is a good option. I don't know that it preserves the chromium in the weld and so makes it not stainless anymore.
Wow.
I would never, ever, ever, ever do this much work without having both high and low side readings, you can't tell much with just low side, what if the high side is way high?
I'll give you...
I do actual design work as well as modelling parts and components to be 3D printed, that's obviously a bit different, but perhaps it could work.
I've drawn out circuits and refrigerant loops in it...
Been shocked enough times to know I can be an idiot at times.
Crashed a motorcycle enough times to know I can be an idiot at times.
Burned my arms while welding enough times to know I can be an...
Normally if motors have a capacitor, they're single phase.
That's a pretty good rule of thumb.
It's most likely wired wrong if the original ran great for years, if the motor has more than 4...
Well, this ended up in the wrong forum, could an admin please put this in the general discussion forum?
Thank you and sorry.
Hey Guys,
Got myself a Teste 552 vacuum gauge to pair up with my other Testo bluetooth tools, trying to get away from manifolds entirely.
...
I do the same thing normally.
Sounds like an airflow problem.
I would be looking for a CFM measurement at the vents to see if you are actually blowing enough air.
Nothing unreasonable about asking questions, just don't be...
Well, I'll be darned.
Guess I need a big press then.
You're telling me they welded copper to stainless steel by pushing them together creating enough friction to hit the melting point of not only copper but stainless?
Stainless 304 melts at around...
I do as well, I prefer just doing it so that I KNOW it's set right and I can say I did it the right way.
Yeah I know, not all manufacturers make their every product all that great.
BUT, they do say "Made in Denmark" and that's good enough for me.
Danfoss makes great stuff in my opinion.
But I'm biased. Being Danish and all, I feel I'm obligated to install as much Danfoss as I can.
I tried a Danfoss TXV once, didn't go well.... but I...
If you are willing to learn though, that's what matters the most in anything.
There's 2 things that can hinder any learning.
1. Not being willing to learn/study.
2. Thinking you already know...
I started out just learning on my own being an in house tech, there was just stuff to fix but I had no idea how, so I learned the hard way, without a teacher mostly until I was a bit further into it,...
I hate flying stingers, get ya when your not looking.
I do commercial refrigeration in Florida.
I see Bally/Heat Craft, Delfield is popular, Traulsen, True, those are the ones I see the most of.
LZ,
Vinyl wrap is porbably the most frustrating thing I've ever worked with in my life, it's not as easy as it looks, I wrapped a motorcycle tank in it and it took me around 8 hours, had to redo...
Fire extinguisher works too....
It was either wasps or yellow jackets.
They hate that powder. Just get ready to run.
Haha,
Man it sucks, especially when you are inside, stinks up the whole place.
Gotta learn the hard way sometimes.
Yeah, I'll second CEAS on that, lets say he DID braze it while under pressure, if he ever got that joint hot enough to melt, it would've blown right out in his face. I've done it, so I know, Lol.
...
Lol.
It's amazing what some techs do different than others.
Superheat is probably one of the most important things to measure as it tells you a lot, most importantly, it tells you if your...
Copeland app.
I'll second Pec on that, comp over evap.
I think there's a chart somewhere that tells you what SH you want at the evaps depending on what's in it.
I try to get 10 or so at the outlet of the...
Lol. This is the probably the most discussed subject on here.
I personally think you can, at least on the inlet to the receiver, I normally try to measure between the outlet of the condenser and...
Sheesh, that sounds insane.
Can't believe that someone would do that.
I had to restore a building's copper after another company bought it, someone had gone in and cut 6' of the 4" copper main,...
Wow.
Some people.
