Lube the probe with water based lubricant they will fit !
They are tight and I always worry when pushing them in as Well I have never seen a temperature and pressure gauge that fits those in one...
You may want to bow out of this one it will cost the customer lots and could cause you more grief then it's worth if you don't work on this stuff normally
As long as Honeywell publishes a " conversion " instructions ( as it seems they do from above ) then all is good. If you just swapped it for something else you could be affecting the units original...
The dukes I have worked on I either used same compressor with a drop in I think rs52 ? Or a 404 compressor not much problems with either other then adjusting temp controls for proper ice cream...

This may be a silly question but why would you ever change a txv or do anything major to a system with out first cleaning a admittedly dirty condenser coil. Sounds as if the txv isnt set up...

This may be a silly question is the heatexchanger ok as it could be leaking small amount of water into system but leak test on compressor replacement should rule this out
