A SI (see above)... is a new, cool, occupation...
Where all you do is make videos, post on forums,...
I read about a year ago...
That Musk is privately working on a hydrogen ICE engine...
So even Musk knows pure EV's are not practical...
Rather... a fad... :)
Just thinking out loud here...
Current elec vehicles (EV's) tend to have the battery in the floor... and a trunk of sorts at BOTH the front and rear of the car...
Some have only a trunk in the...
I would make all three of those AC's... HP's...
That way... you have fuel choices.
Note that when the outside temp gets below freezing...
You will probably switch to the boiler... :)
...
With EV's going out of style...
I wonder if that (making them hybrids) will come back in style???
'Goodman equipment is junk... I just installed this thing... and it will not cool'
Contractor shakes his head and walks away... grin
I would not touch it... unless we started over with...
Not all the marbles are in the bag...
Simple solution...
Keep interviewing contractors... until you find a couple (for your short list) that understand airflow (you will know when you find one... they talk about it... grin)
...
See, there is a reason HVAC is licensed...
Also...
Why is it always a Goodman???

IMO...
The previous 2 posts (# 15 & 16)...
Are things to take seriously!
Ever go to someones home... and they have a 'hot/cold' room???
That is bad ductwork... which is a chronic issue......
This would be my approach...
One system in the attic for upstairs...
The other system in the basement for the main and basement (zoned).
Reason for this... Upstairs is the heavy AC load......
Regardless of how one does it...
Each floor must have its own thermostat and duct system (separate system or zoned)...
Or the lower will be cold and the upper will be hot... literally year...
The last one of these (smart valve) I came across... there was NO WAY to know whether it was the valve or the board (they work integrally with each other)... there are no testers available to...
Trouble-shooting low voltage controls is the key to HVAC service work...
And understanding the refrigerant cycle (both in theory and functional sense)... so you can use that knowledge to...
Definitely a good performance of the song...
However...
Sometimes... I wonder if we are losing the meaning of the songs...
When the performance is the only thing that is focused on???

Is it just me...
Or does it appear that posting is being used to advertise something???
Geez... the adds are supposed to be at the right...
NOT in the content!
I use press fittings for water...
I do NOT use press fittings for Ngas...
I do NOT use press fittings for refrigerant!
There is a simple reason...
If one gets a water leak... it is only...

Question about press tools...
Does this kit... work with the Viega fittings that are sold at HD???

Hmmm...
If one shop is bidding a VS furnace... and/or 2 stage HP/AC...
And another shop is bidding single stage with a basic furnace...
Then this is NOT APPLES TO APPLES
Rather apples to...
Do you remember an auto called a
YUGO
Would you buy a Yugo... because it is cheap... and expect it to perform and last as long as a Chevy or Ford pickup???
I see in a pic, you have a Saab in...
IMO... get the guy to go 2 stage heat and cool... with the zone board staging (one zone = low, 2 zones = high)...
Along with adjusting the dampers to not 100% close...
And that may be the best you...
Zoning is a specialty within heating/cooling...
It REQUIRES an understanding of airflow and ductwork...
MOST (repeat most) contractors DO NOT understand airflow and ductwork well enough to do a...
Yeah, Joan Baez... forgot about her...
That was definitely an era of music!
She has definitely got the pipes...
But that is a Dolly Parton song...
Nobody does it like Dolly... :)
Been thinking about that...
Melanie...
Janis Joplin...
And that female vocalist with Jefferson Airplane... doing white rabbit... grin
Those were the days of music... I doubt we will see that...
On the outside units... they need to breathe... to work properly!
So yeah... under the deck is a bad choice... unless there is minimum 5 ft to the top, and the sides are mostly open.
Some folks...
First things first...
Please do not make this only a financial choice...
Good is not cheap... and cheap is not good!
However the reverse of this is also not true... that being the higher price...
I believe there is a definition that the FED govt has... that has to be met... to use the name...
Might start at Energy Star and see what you can find... :)
Most of them that I have looked at... and the couple of installs we did...
They are basically inverter mini-split technology...
In a conventional HP/AH boxes.
Beyond that... I think forum...
Life needs hard choices... that make folks struggle to reach the line of accountability in their endevears...
Like sweating to buy a car... and investing some greasy hands in making it run... so...
Men are not masculine any more...
And girls do not respect masculinity anymore...
Our society is screwed up!
I do NOT think... that a society without responsibility for ones choices and actions...
Is in any way progress...
It is, rather... destructive to the very basic common sense...
That make a...
You can change that M12 easily...
Kinda different if it is installed inside... and the leak detector has to be tied to 120V to charge...
:)
Should humans who are incapable of thought...
Be driving a vehicle???
I suspect that has something to do with mileage (range)...
IMO... there should be a video of how to take care of a vehicle... ICE or EV...
And the dealership should have a theater... where you...
Years ago... there was a thread about the battery in an H10 leak detector...
Someone did a custom battery upgrade, using 18650 batteries...
Did not work very well... as 18650's tend to loose their...
One more reason EV's are NOT ready for prime time!
It appears this time... it is failures in hardware/software controllers... rather than the base technology...
Which is a solvable issue.
Couple of years ago... I got a-hold of 2x 15T Trane Voyagers... for scrap...
They paid pretty well by the time I got it all done.
It was off season... so I had time to fiddle with that......
I do not remember the details...
However scrapping an EV... is expensive...
And the usual junkyard parts thing... does not seem to be as viable a business... as with IC engine cars.
Obviously,...
This, IMO, raises some discussion...
I can see the safety concerns... as I can also see the implications of cheaper insurance if one goes down the burn permit road...
OTOH... govts are...
That question has already been answered...
Biden and many of the DIMS (and some RINOs) are heavily invested in Chinese EV battery companies...
It has NOTHING to do with the environment...
It...
The 2 level great-room area should have supply vents also... otherwise... there will be hot/cold spots...
Better to put some air into that area!
That is one of the advantages of doing residential... one does not have to play all those games... just get the work done.
Having said that... one thing that we see here in Georgia...
You pay a...
I fully agree... that it is possible (most of the time)... to come up with an acceptable comfort level without zoning...
However to rule it out across the board... with things like:
It is...
Generally... that only happens in blue cities in blue states...
Red states... mostly... do not do that BS (other than a large blue city in a red state)... :)
Yes... theoretically... the more parts, the more potential failures...
OTOH... comfort is why we have heating and cooling in our homes... and sometimes zoning is necessary for comfort.
We (my...
These two posts, IMO, are the key...
The amount of heat (or cooling) that each room receives... is directly related to the ductwork...
And sadly... it is a minority of HVAC folks that truly...
Yeah... in the larger picture... we will get through it... and if saving energy is really important... this is a good move.
Before getting into heating and AC... I did basement finishes...
