I agree with that. In my follow up next week I will recheck and now looking back will change superheat lower. It will also drop my superheat at compressor. So good idea

Yes I wrote on doghouse and had a sticker from my refrigerant bottle which was nice of them to put in there. I am returning next week for a follow up and will post update.

Ok so update from yesterday sorry for delay. After clearing the ice and letting it pull back down to temp superheat at txv was 22. Box temp -3F. Adjusted txv open and it would not lower superheat...

You could possibly choke it down if needed but at low load conditions it will give you issues. It will hunt all over the spectrum once down to temp.

If your on the job site try this to see how the system responds. Close your txv until you reach 10psig suction pressure. See if a frost line start appearing as your coil temp should drop to -25....

I agree, i make sure our trucks are stocked with extra sensors because of the failure rate.

If I can get the compressor manufacturers specs then I go by that but if I can’t get that info I have to go by rule of thumb then generally it’s a case by case basis depending on application.

I always look at the compressor manufacturers specs to see what return temp is recommended. But yes 40 is medium temp return temp.

I see what your talking about but remember, a captube and a txv are both doing the same thing. Metering the refrigerant. Only difference is the captube is a fixed constant and the txv can modulate....

Depending on how it was designed sometimes the superheat happens after the coil with heat exchange etc. Not sure on this one, but we do know that the compressor needs at least a 40 degree return gas...
