Both are not used together as the wiring diagram shows. It is just showing you how each would be wired, if installed.

they are not in parallel to the compressor contactor-they are in series. When one of the safeties opens, the logic in CTD opens that switch. It is pictured as normally open but its actually normally closed and locks out to prevent short cycling.

I had another question on the same diagram. I am referring to the potential relay part of the diagram. On the diagram when the 5-2 coils is energized it drops out the start capacitor. That part makes sense. The part I do not understand is the start winding goes to herm on the dual cap and then to common out to terminal 23 on the contractor. To me it looks like the start winding is never dropped out but the start cap is. Basically when I follow the the start winding it goes com>start>herm>com>23. How is the start winding dropped out.

    Thanks again

looking at the manual for carrier 24AH and 124AN series, I can't find any clarification.

BUT, if you look at the full wiring diagram (high and low voltage) every component that has a star beside it can be found as an accessory part in the product data brochure.

So I would guess, if the accessory isn't installed, you would have the wire from Y directly to the contactor coil, otherwise signal would go through the installed accessories.

are the safeties an option? what's the note that goes along with the star beside them?
I overlooked the stars. I think your are correct. In this case, one line is typically shown "dashed" to indicate the option. They didn't do that for this diagram.

Okay. I got it to load properly. In fact, your question is the first thing I noticed when I looked at the picture. I can only think it is an illustration error, as other variants of this unit either eliminate that conductor entirely, or connect it to a Triac.

The manual does not provide enough specific information in the sequence of operation section.

Hey. So my first question was why are all the safeties run in parallel to the contactor coil ?

    Thanks

Looking for some clarification on a wiring diagram

Would this be a good place to ask questions in regards to wiring diagrams?
