There are some techs that have been in the field many years and don't know what nate is either.

There are some sharp counter men and some you want to avoid.

We as contractors or techs need to filter out erroneous technical info we are given be it from a counterman, manufacturer, fellow tech or even boss. I would not have taken offense at the counterman being misinformed, I would have been more irked if he tried to convince me to use a leak sealer.

I may have told him to be careful because what he was recommending was against the law and left it at that.

Yep. Of course. That's what me and my guys have been doing. I have since talked to the branch manager about the "information" his counter help is giving out...

Has anyone heard of people putting 407 on top of 22? ...on that note I was getting some odd fluctuating pressure readings on a unit but the line temps remained the close to the same. Oh, and the system was cooling.... Anyone have any thoughts?
I have definitely seen it done in the past but just like stated before it's illegal and although it will work it causes too many problems. If you watch your gauges after it's been added you will see a crazy fluctuation almost like a TXV hunting but way more erratic. It just simply should not be done

Pepe be careful, R407 is not miscible with mineral oil, therefore, if you have it ... no more lubrication after R22 disappears

Mixing is lazy, just like bypassing certain components.

ive found this summer that fluctuating pressures happen when combining the two together. When recovering then replacing its fine but a vacuum (full) is usually required to actually make it work the way its supposed too.

We always recover then replace. saves problems it seems.

Not only is it illegal, once you make your own personal blend...you now have no idea what the pressure-temperature relationship is.

Which means, if your one of those technicians that is actually concerned about subcooling and superheat, it will be impossible to measure it.

The company that was out before us did this...(How do I know?) my tech and the other tech know each other... And yup...it was just around 90 degrees, which must be why it "appeared" to be "working"..... Anyway, to make a long story short...we never drop in refrigerants....Or else they better not. Let's put it that way.
