Ive had mine for almost 20 years. Even back then, the class was a huge amount of $$$$. It was a 3 day course, out of town. Pass or fail, no retries within 1 year.

A money grab. It still didnt prevent hacks.

Guess the homeowner didn’t have a long enough piece of ⅜ copper, so he spliced two pieces with a brass threaded nipple.

At least he used silver solder.

Stuff like that gives the good DIY'ers a bad rap. Back in the day I never did a job unless I could walk away from it and think of it as being "art", and knowing it was fixed better than new when I was done. One solution might be to license the possession and use of propane torches.

I do some work for an individual, he has more different freon and refrigerant than I ever have, he will buy a jug off ebay or where ever if he has ever had to pay a guy to put it in at some point. he actually has a 30 lb jug of R600, because a refrigerator he bought has it in it, just in case it ever needs it... Lawyers pfff.... LOL

Actually MAPP burns at 2010 celsius, Acetylene burns at 2500 celsius, after adding oxygen to each, it is 2927 and 3480 celsius. Propane is 1967 and 2526 celsius, maybe you got propane confused with Acetylene.

If the homeowner did the torchwork, then I wonder who charged it up? I haven't run into this yet, but I wouldn't charge a system like that. I wouldn't want to be associated with it in any way.

Old MAPP gas used propadiene. The company that made it stopped in 2008. MAP/Pro uses propylene gas. It may leave a residue on some surfaces such as glass.

from what I remember it's not the temperature of mapp that is the problem, but the hydrogen content. leaves the joint prone to cracking
