Not if there cannot be a non GFCI outlet by code. Thankfully my state is probably at least 10 years out on adopting that code.

Are we talking about a GFCI breaker or outlet? My mistake I assumed we were talking about a outlet.

Maybe. I think the GCFI would still trip. I was just looking for something quick and simple like the isolation transformer. It already has the plug-ins on it. Of course, only if it would work.

I would use that option but the whole point of the transformer is because the main power is disconnected. The York chillers I am working on need to be powered down at the MCC bucket and then I can power it up with 115V to troubleshoot and test by keeping the controls alive without the 460V safety issue. Unfortunately, the factory hasn’t been of any help on this yet.

I appreciate the replies. Unfortunately, I will not be allowed the option of replacing the outlets. Trying to find a work around for temporary use in many sites.

You can wire a secondary outlet and no have it GFCI protected. GFCI are good to have, but can be a pain in the rear end when they fail time and time again.

I've thrown several GFCI's into the trash and put a regular receptacle back - for instance - when they turn off a cooler for no reason , and all of the food has to be thrown out

I don't write much on the invoice tho ….instead ... I write it up as "performed maintenance" on a cooler

Isolation transformer and GFCI

I have an application where I need a non-GFCI 115V outlet for testing purposes in an environment where I only have GFCIs. If I had a 1:1 isolation transformer with the primary plugged into a GFCI and the secondary side plugged into my non-GFCI application, would the GFCI on the primary side trip?
