    I believe you mean a wing BOLT? But then, you're going to need a wrench to tighten the new motor in place anyway, aren't you?

    I used to do that, but it's not so easy to remove a 1.5
    hp 3ph motor hunched over a 200 ton Trane chiller with one hand while your other hand tries to pry the bracket open. Too many dropped tools and motors, and scraped skin. This saves me a BUNCH of aggravation; I made one for all the guys in our shop; they get used a lot

    I usually just stick the end of my 12" cresent wrench in there and twist, it spreads it far enough and has enough back pressure to hold it in place. No it's not adjustable but I don't have to crank on it to get it opened or closed, just a quick twist.

    Those belly band brackets sure can be problematic in the field. Only if God had provided us with a third arm could it be any easier.

    CONDENSER MOTOR BRACKET SPREADER

    Makes spreading brackets for removing and installing condenser fan motors much easier. For vertical or horizontal.
    5/16" bolt, square nut and acorn nut; all stainless steel purchased at Lowes. Only a couple of dollars makes several.
