I usually just stick the end of my 12" cresent wrench in there and twist, it spreads it far enough and has enough back pressure to hold it in place. No it's not adjustable but I don't have to crank on it to get it opened or closed, just a quick twist.
Those belly band brackets sure can be problematic in the field. Only if God had provided us with a third arm could it be any easier.
CONDENSER MOTOR BRACKET SPREADER Makes spreading brackets for removing and installing condenser fan motors much easier. For vertical or horizontal. 5/16" bolt, square nut and acorn nut; all stainless steel purchased at Lowes. Only a couple of dollars makes several.
