I do know a budget system will not match the XV1500 system's efficiency or comfort so maybe someone out there needs this thermostat to try to get a couple more years out of it. That's the only reason we paid to get the coils cleaned.
I know of no way to clean the coils to cause a system failure. What are they saying the failure was?

The SV1500 was only classed as 15 SEER, the budget model you spoke of is 13 SEER, not a lot of difference there. In fact if properly installed and set up the 13 SEER may come close to matching efficiency of a 25-30 year old system.

Now if you go up to top of the line for today like the XV was then we are talking a completely different story.

We put in 5 of them all went over 18 years and are now gone. Most didn't last that long. The chance that there are any left is pretty slim.

At this point if there are any left they would be better off putting in a new more efficient system than spending even a few $ on a 28 year old control system because time is not on their side.

Lol, why would an HVAC tech buy it if he didn't need it?

My point is, it’s 28 years old. How much longer will it last? New thermostats are reliable and cheap, with a warranty.

I don't think you speak for everyone. If my thermostat had gone out on an otherwise good system then I would most certainly want it.
