I like Rotolocks. I didn't need to bring the torches out. Just a big wrench.
Actually often the torches were needed anyway. Those locks can be $itchy.

Not just motors. In the AF I was ground crew. We had a big power supply called an MD3.
It supplied both AC & DC. It had it's own motor driving the generators and alternators at 400 cps.
When hooked up to the airplane and switching the DC on line, the big cables would jump.
I don't know the size but a guess might be 1" dia. What's that about 250 kcmil.

After what I have witnessed, I don't doubt it. Put enough energy into stuff, and weird stuff happens.

At the factory test stand, large hp centrifugal units can make the loose power leads dance.

That initial start pulse is a *****! Now I understand why Trane encapsulates windings...

It really opened my mind on what motor windings go through. Made me appreciate what happens when you slam 247v on an inductive load.

No,bud. You can do some googling, as I saw a video years ago that the Trane regional manager showed us. It was eye opening. Compressor windings go through hell under full load operation!

Lol! But you gotta admit those Texas made sobs, with epoxy encapsulated windings were tought as a sack of nails.

    Lets see.....
    All use someone else's compressors.
All use someone else's components like contactors, caps etc.
    All outsource control boards

What do these guys actually make? Not much. They have that in common.

All I see in common is the warranty paperwork, and a damaged P and L sheet.

Fixed, step, or variable speed compressors?

No full compliance like Copeland, lg has internal reed pressure control valves, probable weak point.

YUP, mandated higher efficiency but relaxed standards on how to get there. They did it prior to coils with gas milage in cars. You save 50 bucks a year in gas but we took off the steel bumper and put plastic everywhere, now everyone's auto insurance went up an average of a couple hundred. Health insurance also went up to cover the all the shoulder injury claims from the gov't decision makers pattin' themselves on the back.
