I've never lost my 11 way, but I loose the bits all the time. You take the bit out to use the 5/16 and that's the last time you see it.

I actually just did it yesterday. Luckily I had an extra from another one in my tool box that I lost a different bit from.

Which one of your tools goes MIA ... drill bit or Duct Knifes?
I've probably got 100 pocket sized temp probes still stuck in the ducts I put them in.

Either I lost or my helpers lost for me:
1/4" and 5/16" chucks, 12" malco folding bar, Estwing hammer, small gauge wire strippers, 18" pipe wrench, and countless thermostat screw drivers.

I don't lose tools. I might leave them behind for a day or two but that's it. And I ALWAYS remember where I left them. I'm probably jinxing myself by saying this though.

How many of you guys keep the tools you find? If I find a tool I leave it behind. You never know when the guy who left it is coming back.

One of my coworkers is a little superstitious and believes that if you take the tools you find you'll lose yours somewhere down the road. Might be something to that...

For many years I never lost any tools. This was because I knew exactly what my tool pouch weighed. When I picked it up I could immediately feel if so much as a screwdriver was missing.

And also; every tool went into the same place every time. So I could instantly find anything - even in the dark or when reaching behind me. But beyond that; I could tell at a quick glance if anything was missing.

I still have the pair of channel locks I got in my first tech school. <g> I don't use them anymore - but I still have them.

That has all faded because I don't clean up as much any more. For many years I did only service so I was always moving but now sometimes I work on the same thing for a few days so I clean up less and so lose more things. And besides that; I have two of everything now and each is 1000 miles from the other - so it's not always as clear in my mind as it once was.

But I really very seldom lose anything still.

If I go into an attic or a crawl I always put everything into the 3 gallon pickle bucket I use for my shopvac base - my whole tool pouch and anything else I am taking Justin Case. Jostling a tool pouch around beams, and ducts, and trusses and all that just seems too risky in terms of something falling out and going un-noticed.

    Oh, and foil tape squeegees.
    Understand that one...
I do not know when the last time I actually broke a tape measure...
    They always get lost first...

Been buying an economy version for around $4 at the big box stores...
May look at the dollar stores for a $0.99 version...

Same with utility knives... been getting the silver ones at Horrible Freight... buy half a dozen at a time... usually for $0.99 when they are on sale!
