wow, thats scary, are the amanas certified to be sidewall vented. If the original installer would have run the vent through the wall would have it been correct?

Whats really scary is that is looks much better than what my competitor does. But a lot of people love him because he is cheap! But they can never find him when it doesn't work right. Im glad Amana is selective on who installs their equipment

At first glance the house didn't look like a 5 ton house. What if it's oversized :(

Steve, man I gotta say it. Based on the pictures you post, that area down there around Waco is the armpit of humanity.

I really like the unique angle of the back stair (verticle???) railings. Must have been hard to maintain that angle each and everytime.
I used to own property in south Texas. Great people but a little off centre but then again I guess we all are.

Nice shots, especially Bubba and Toothless on the front porch. How appropriate.
I don't think anybody's 80 can be side vented without use of a Tjernlund or Field inducer.
5 ton load? Probably with no insulation. Did the house have 5 tons worth of duct? 5 ton blower in the skinny furnace?

There was one 18" return flex duct about 20ft. long. I didn't measure or count the suppiles. The old unit was an upflow in a closet with ductwork in the attic. Here is how the contractor sealed off the holes.

I suppose the new unit was installed in the crawl because they needed more storage space??? I don't know.

Good pics as usual. I've had people tell me that some jobs like this one find me. Seems some find you too. Whats the plan? Tear it out and replace it all, or rework and change as needed. Hope warrenty will fly if AC can be reused with new comp.

Nice trap on the flue vent.

I'm pretty sure that 80 series is allready induced draft. The flue should be pitched correctly the entire distance and then terminated thru the wall but I bet that thing would still work ok as is believe it or not.
But this reminds me of a job we went to (attemp to) correct.
It was in Chaperell Pines, a high dollar golf resort outside of payson, Az. You have to be a millionaire to live there.
So I get this call to go check it out. The first visit I went out alone. Keep in mind this house is like at least a 1.5 million dollar or better custom home. Multi levels, theater room, built on the side of a hill etc. So he's got cooling problems. Nobody should have cooling problems at 5500 ft altitude right? he he he you should have seen this mess. He's got really poor airflow and one unit not cooling. The units are under the crawl space and the condensers out back. The condensers are crammed behind a wood wall because the builder care more about looks than operation or service. I find one unit flat on charge. So I go under the house into the crawl space. And that's what this was. A crawl! I find nice 90 percent furnaces under there. ABS pipe was used for the flu. NO STRAP and NO GLUE so it was apart in like several places. As I looked for a leak I found the line sets. NOT INSULATRED once in the crawl space and holy sheep sh*t some ba$tard must have been really cheap here. Not one section of refer line was longer than 10 feet before it was coupled to the next short section. it was like some joker used all scrap. Not one single roll of 50 foot copper was used on this job. it was miss matched scraps! I found leaks on like 4 or 5 welds under this ba$tard crawls space.
So anyway, I patched the leaks, vacuumed and dropped the charge to get cooling until we could figure out what to do.
The job was so terible I called my boss out. I was like "...you gotta come see this!" He spends an hour looking with his jaw dropped open and called his partner in the business "...you gotta come see this!"
We could hardly understand what the hell must have went wrong. Then there was the story of the ductwork. I think they had like soffeted in plenums, hard duct sticking out from the crawls space and going up to the upstairs. It was like 20 inch by 12 inch or something but like 8 inch flex making the connection from the supply plenum on the furnace to that plenum.
The builder met us there. He was standing outside the crawl space and got to listen to each of us go under the house and say "what the hell???" as each one of us came by to try and figure out what to even do with any of it. I think the builder just about cried when he heard our amazement!
The builder had hired some company from Flagstaff. Probably got a really good price to install there high dollar furnaces and condensers.
That was several years ago. I don't know what ever happened to it. I'd hate to have been that builder.
Sorry I have no pics. They would have been GREAT in here. That was before digital camera's were available for less than $500

Had figured that they didnt vent it outdoors to keep there feet warm durning the winter months. Class Act job. Good thing they supported the flue pipe.
