Going to change out a 1/8 hp Tecumseh in a sandwich unit, i never done one of these and was wondering if the compressor comes with oil in it? also what would be the capacity of the factory spun dryer as i am installing a larger sporlan filter dryer and need to know how much charge to add. factory plate stated 7.25oz but the new dryer i think it said 3.25oz. i am thinking I need about 2 additional oz's but i would like to know the correct amount if possible.

Yes there's oil in it. Weigh in factory charge and tweak it from there

1/8 HP ?

News to me too .....
Supco does sell a 3in1 from 1/12-1/5 so they must be out there.

A spin drier would be just fine, if it's factory already with the drier I would leave it alone

Sorry I meant yes change the spin drier but there's no need to put a bigger drier on that small of a unit

Spun driers are CRAP
only use Sporlan 032CAP-T driers with cap tubes

Yes they are, but only when a R134a condenser has been allowed to overheat. I have removed many spun coppers that were a clean as a whistle. :det:

Not everybody neglects their equipment.

You're right.

Only 99% of people neglect their equipment.

The other 1% actually do take good care of it.

Actually for me it's more like 50/50. I try to teach my customers. Believe it or not, they are good students.

I called beverage air and asked them for the correct Tecumseh compressor number I ordered it and when it came it was 1/8 hp so i called beverage air back and they confirmed i had the right compressor. the also confirmed the 1/8 hp when the parts book states different. So anyway i checked a different unit and sure enough it has a 1/8 hp the same as the new one.

I also have been taught that spun copper driers are pretty much worthless, and a real one is always better.

Try to get as small of a drier as you can though. If you put too large of a drier on a tiny system like that, it can act kind of like an accumulator. If you put an accumulator right before the cap tube, it aint gonna work right.

Sporlan's C-032-CAPT is the drier I use for small units that use R-134a. They do a much better job of keeping the capillary tube from clogging up than a spun drier will.
