The starting torque may be too much for the blade hub, also the motor may overheat due to too low of a load.

We have done it a million times with no problems. Amp draw is a better comparison than HP on factional motors btw. Unless you grossly over size the motor, you will be fine.

I have run into noise issues when going over the HP size on some units. We replace 1/12 with 1/6 frequently with little problems. Also replace 1/8 with 1/4 now and then. Just be careful you don't have a giant vibrator on your hands afterwords and you should be fine.

The OD coil will never be as clean as new.
You must do this as a matter of course if you expect an older unit to keep up in hot Southwest locations.

 

When replacing a motor w/ a different horsepower be careful as pecmsg referred to. According to motor mfrg's you can go up ONE size in HP. If you go beyond that "1 size" recommended suggestion then the oversized cond fan motor can/will experience something called an "inverse porportionality" that affects the motor torque and motor temp. I have that "Fasco Facts" booklet and it is a Good Read.

So when you say 1 size up If I replace my Condenser Motor which is 1/10 hp, 1100 RPM, 208-230V with Condenser Motor with 1/4 hp, 1100 RPM, 208-230V its going to be ok?

2 very different fans to consider ..mini split with solid state controller and outdoor unit with relays .
Solid state will be controlled by Mosfets and similar controlled devices where break away amperage with larger motors can take out your board.
With the modern inverter style mini’s I would not want to add any heat to the controllers . Replace with exact spec.
