Hello Forum Pro's,

Background....My main level gets heat from my heat pump. Single zone.

I have a Fujitsu mini split with a single head unit located in my basement.
The compressor is not a multi zoned compressor.

Here's the problem:

I installed the head unit in my basement, but I barely use my basement (maybe twice a year in the winter), so I barely use my new mini split system. Its a waste. Yes, it was a dumb idea to put in the basement, but I need it when I need it, which is a couple times a winter.

So it would be awesome if I can put in my bedroom (located on main level)
It would be great to lower the heat at night for the main level and keep my bedroom toasty using my mini split (cheaper heat)

Here's my question:

1. Install another head unit in my bedroom?
2. Install a T-valve for the refrigerant lines with a manual on/off valve to each unit?
3. Install electrical breaker (so there would be no way to turn on both units at the same time without manual intervention)

Trying to figure out how to make use of my barely used mini split. I dont mind manual intervention of a valve or breaker switch.

Thanks all!

No. The indoor unit has to communicate with the outdoor unit for either to operate. You can relocate the indoor unit to your bedroom, but if your heat pump only has connections for one indoor unit, that’s all it’s designed for. Valving off the line set isn’t smart because how do you know how much refrigerant is being trapped in the unused indoor unit?

This wouldn’t work, nor would it be a very good idea to try.

In the simplest terms, it cannot be done.

Heat pumps are made for a given number of heads and can have no more than that amount. No valving, wiring, or alteration will change it.

As has been stated, a professional could move the head to a new location but it is not a DIY job. No homeowner has the necessary tools (and most wouldn't have the knowledge) to do it without damaging it.

I have a fujitsu condensor and a fujitsu head unit in my basement. Nothing else is installed. This was installed by my HVAC contractor.

I wanted to know if its possible to add a second fujitsu head unit. Then I would tell him to add it

Call the installer back and ask him to relocate the head upstairs.
