Hello all:

Hello all:

My contactor just called and said there are no 105 btu Rheem Mods to be had in this area or the ENTIRE country. He said Rheem/Rudd cannot buy any the blower motors and the distributor does not know when they are going to ship these units. The contractor said they have a 105 btu Rudd and can change the badging if I really want it to say Rheem. Contractor said the Rudd Mod is identical to the Rheem Mod. Is this true? Are Rudd/Rheem Mods made at the same plant from the same parts and are these parts made by the same vendors?

Thanks in advance for your replies I need to decide by tomorrow.

Only difference is the first letter of the model number and the stickers, the parts are the same. Sounds like you had better hurry up and grab this one.

Ok so whats the reason for that? Is there a problem with the motors or a problem manufacturing them? You can tell me those furnaces are going out the door so fast they cant keep up with suppling the motors but I might question that. lol

Hmm, I wonder of GE is having problems keeping up with the demand for VS blowers since more manufacturers need them for thier new equipment lines?

My guess would be the imbalance of supply and demand of the VS motors.

My prediction is that this time next year every unit Rheem/Ruud sell will have one except maybe the bargain units.

So if a 105 Rheem/Ruud vs blower fails, they can't supply a replacement motor?

Sounds like he doesn't want to pay the extra for the Rheem name.

wanna lay some cash on that? (j/k that would be too easy).

Talk to Your distributor, he will happily show you that 13 SEER systems will still use a PSC motor, if you want 14, 14, 16 or 18, then you will use either an ECM or the X motor. But since 13 SEER will likly be 95% of the market (as 10-13 SEER is today) the PSC system will still have the largest sales volume.

I suspect that the OP asked his contractor for a Rheem mod 90 and the dealer may have a better working relationship with the Ruud distributor and therefore rather than just dealing with the request, the contractor elaborated and thanks to a furm like this a new bogus rumor has flourished.

Thanks for the replies. My contactor has said nothing about reducing the price of the install due to using Rudd instead of Rheem. BTW he also quoted a Rheem 12 SEER but cannot get one (he told me this 5 weeks ago) so he is installing a Rudd 12 SEER. Should I expect or ask for a price reduction or are Rudd and Rheem equipment priced the same.

Thanks again.

Ruud/Rheem

In our neck of the woods the prices of each are within a few dollars.

These furnaces come off the same assembly line and are identical exceot for the name tag.

Same for the air conditioners.

The shortage of furnaces is news to me.

Best regards...

The 09 & 10 use the same motor. Never had to order one so don't know anything about a shortage. Doc would know best of all.

Certainly difficult to get outdoor units these days no matter the brand with the sub 13s being phased out and the new ones not always available.

And certainly no need for price adjustment going from Rheem to Ruud. Hey, if you don't want Ed's name on your stuff, have them get you a Rheem sticker, that's the only difference!

Sounds like the distributor did not stock up and is blaming Rheem. The motor is a 3/4 hp GE ECM motor. Not anything special except the progamming that is unique to the 105.

Well, a Ruud 105 Mod plus a 12 SEER is being installed tomorrow. How will the extended warrenty work since the equipment will be registered with Ruud but the installer is only a Rheem dealer. I want to deal with this insataller only if i have warrenty issues.

Thanks for all your helpful and informative comments.
