    Question Flow Change Rate to a Carrier 30HXA chiller

    Does anyone know where I can find the flow change rate to a Carrier model: 30HXA186RZ-630ZB. The cooler mod is: 10HX400013. The reason I ask is that I'm looking at going to variable flow using a primary pump. I have two of these chillers piped in parallel and would like to know if the chillers could handle this.
    More information is posted in the controls forum under pressure tranducers and VFDs. Any help would be appreciated.

    Well ya might check out Carrier's literature available on their site.

    Check out page 20, Application Data, gives min. flow rates. You will certainly be changing the selection data for the existing chillers. Some of what you may want to do may be trial and error. Not sure.

    Here's a quote from the Application Data

    "Variable cooler flow rates — These variable rates may
    be applied to standard 30HX series chillers. However, the
    unit will attempt to maintain a constant leaving chilled-fluid
    temperature. In such cases, minimum fluid loop volume
    must be in excess of 3 gpm per ton (3.2 L per kW) and
    flow rate must change in steps of less than 10% per
    minute. Apply 6 gal per ton (6.5 L per kW) fluid loop volume
    minimum if flow rate changes more rapidly."

    Thank you. Now I have a good starting point to see if this can work effectively. I'll agree, its going to be a lot of trial and error.
