I found this Holiday Inn, it's weird, I went to hotels .com and the price was 110.00 a room per night. I then went to Holiday Inn Duluth reservation page and they quote a room at 77.00 a night. Anyway ,this hotel has smoking and non smoking rooms

OK guys, we kinda need to get this going. If any help is needed, past hosts are all willing to jump in. That might land us somewhere we might not want to be, but we'll git-er-done

I've sort of got the same situation, except my family is a few hours away. So far, my plans are to leave Wed., spend a night in Vicksburg, the casinos have 39.00 rooms on weekdays. Then either drive to B'ham and stay another night at moms or just drive on to Atlanta.

I'll PM GA and see if he has a place reserved for Saturday get together. He was talking about the VFW in Duluth I think. Found this hotel has a special for $67 a night and it's close to the VFW or Legion hall. http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/h...tyhocn=ATLDMHX

Gets great reviews on trip advisor

Now that sounds like a plan is coming together. Good luck getting through to GA tech. I think he has a filter on Yankee PMs.

Well, I hear Viagra can help with that problem. What about those of us who are working "too" hard?

So, let's get a definite on an official hotel.

    Update...

First: Ace was/is right (might want to mark your calendar... ) GA has been unusually busy.

Second: We had a medical issue with Dad... not to be concerned; he is well and healthy.

Update: I am waiting for one more quote from a hotel... should have it tomorrow (Friday). If this one looks as it sounds... I think I have all I need to post a plan! (YEAH!!!)

Here are a few details for the 2011 H-talk convention in Atlanta (The GREATEST H-talk Convention yet... ) folks can plan on:

Date: The convention will be Saturday September 17th in a suburb of Atlanta.
Travel: For those who fly in; Hartsfield-Jackson airport is a HUGE place with lots of airlines serving the area. Airtran is probably one of the best deals if one wants to fly non-stop. A few years ago I was doing a lot of traveling and found one can fly connecting on US Air through Charlotte. Generally one adds about 2 hrs to each way... however the prices were a considerable savings then (the summer of 2009). Best to check fairs at many different travel sites (Orbitz, Travelocity, etc).

Planned activities: So far, I have planned the following activities:
*Thursday evening: Dinner at a local restaurant to chill and re-acquaint with folks we have not seen in a year. Location to be announced, based on RSVP's (how many the restaurant can handle).
*Friday evening: For those that would like a taste of Southern flare: Lets go to Stone Mountain Park to see the Laser show (weather permitting). See the link below, and check the links to the right mid page:
    http://festivals.stonemountainpark.c...n/?id=5&pid=53
*Saturday evening will be the Convention... catered with BBQ and the fixins. I really need a head count on this when we can... both for the food and refreshments.
*For those that are Church going folk: You are welcome to join me at my Church Sunday morning at 11:00 AM.

I hope to put together a few lists of places and sites to see, by category... such as:
For the history buffs: Places to see with Civil War history; and places associated with 'Gone with the Wind'.
For the ladies: A list of malls to shop at. Note those that will drive 30-40 miles each way... there are a couple of outlet malls with loads of stores.
For the museum crowd: Lots of places to see.
For the 'attraction crowd': Places like CNN center, Centennial park, World of Coke museum, the GA Aquarium (largest in the world).
For the Sports crowd: We have the Atlanta Braves, and we have the Gwinnett Braves (farm team). The latter have their own stadium... tickets are easy to get (even at the last minute), and the games are good action. The stadium is about 20-30 min away from our area.

If anyone of the locals have suggestions for the attractions lists... PLEASE post them. I can think of a bunch of stuff... however I am sure lots of minds can think of a LOT more stuff to do.

THX guys/gals for your patience. Lets make this a time to remember.
BTW: There is a real possibility of an 'event' folks will not want to miss... and will remember at the convention... What is is... You just gonna have to be here to see...

Is Southwest coming directly to Atlanta now... Honestly I do not keep up with things in the air these days.

I did a job for an AirTran pilot back in late June... He did not say either way.

He did say SW is looking to go to Hawaii soon. I hope to take a vacation there someday (hopefully in the next year or so).

Looking forward to meeting you and a bunch of other folks from H-talk. The last convention I attended was 2008 in NC... I think Special Ed hosted it... and Yes, Robo wore a pink shirt... .

I wonder if some of the folks 'over there' will pick up on this and attend... probably should post something to them.

May be a change in plans for Lisa and I. Due to my current employment status, we may not be able to make this one.

I was told yesterday that "It just wasn't working out." by my now previous employer. I agreed that it certainly wasn't working out for me because I was paid only on commission of sales in my territory but forced to cover technical services for all territories when the company downsized by letting their Technical Service Manager go last year.

We plan on driving in, so flight plans are not a problem. We can also book whatever hotel is chosen as that can be cancelled within a day or so of actually being there. I suppose mainly I need to have some idea what our cost will be so I can add it to gas, food, tequila and vodka expenses required.
