I'm Going to Smoke The Turkey Again This Year

I have been smoking the bird every year now, since 2005.
Last year the in-laws wanted to eat around 2pm & I didn't start the turkey until 6am, so it was a little under-done. This year we have enough time to cook it right; no company, just us & the cat.
So, anyway, anyone else going low & slow this year?

That's what I do. the first year I fried one, I used honey in the marinade. I pulled the turkey out 20 min later and the thing was black as charcoal. Apparently sugar burns at a lower temp.
One good thing no one B****ed about not having crispy skin.

I'm not cooking this year. Headed to south Louisiana to my brother's house. No telling what his cajun in-laws will be cooking.
Perhaps you should have read the instructions before calling.

I have a turkey fryer, but I've never fried a turkey in it! I use it for some danm good chicken wings, though - it'll cook 50 - 60 at a time. I have also fried cornish game hens in it, you can do 4-5 in about 10 min. (it takes longer to heat the oil!).

Well, if you're ever down that way and in need of being buried, my SIL's family owns the funeral home in Merryville.

I'm looking forward to the visit. The drive will suck -- 15 hours of pure joy.

Oh, well, it's worth it to see my father and the rest of the clan.
