And no, I am not being racist... Lol, that seems to be the first line of defense when u mention a foreign national...

Im sitting here waiting for my lennox condenser listening to a foreign person explaining to his friend what he is charging his customer and how he is beating the gringos in price by a lot on a furn. Evap and condenser install. When he mentioned the final price I couldnt believe my ears. It was so low above cost I wondered how he can pull it off, specially after paying the other two guys with him. Now, I must mention that I speak and understand that foreign language but dont fit the description of someone that could, so they have no clue im tuned into their conversation. I guess by driving that 87 caravan with wood trim saves them money and keep a low overhead.

What you're experiencing is a conversation from a person who knows only one method of sales, the lowest price. Where will he be 5-days after the installation if you need service on the new system? Where will he be in 5-years if you need warranty service on the system? Who will maintain the equipment, as required to maintain the manufacturer's warranty?
There are certain costs associated with maintaining a business. Sales and installation are only one part of that business. Having a 24-hour telephone service so you can communicate with the company is one such cost. Try and call this person on which you're eavesdropping at 2:00 AM on a winter night and see what you get. With luck an answering machine but most likely, just a ringing phone or a message that "the number you've called is no longer in service".
Different business models have different overhead costs. The one truck operator is always the lowest cost but is also the most risky investment. When the weather gets extreme and that one truck operation is in the middle of installing a new unit, the 5 people who've had systems installed are not going to get service from that company. But the company that has a stable of service techs and trucks is also doing an installation on that same day but has several service techs available to respond to service needs. And yes, it does cost a lot of money to maintain that larger company. Buyer's remorse is always around when someone hears about a lower price for a similar product. The best medicine to combat buyer's remorse is to not listen when others are talking about price. Have some conviction. You chose the installing company for a reason. Don't let a lower price eliminate that though process.
If YOU want change, YOU have to first change.
If you are waiting for the 'other guy' to change first, just remember, you're the 'other guy's' other guy. To continue to expect real change when you keep acting the same way as always, is folly. Won't happen. Real change will only happen when a majority of the people change the way they vote!
Or quote the price for a bare bones installation then add to the cost as you "find stuff" that needs to be fixed...
Chances are pretty good that he doesn't even know how to do a proper installation, or what one even looks like.
When someone low bids like that they cut all kinds of corners. Did he change the line set or at least clean it out, prolly not. Did he have new transitions made or did he just hack the old ones to fit. I see it all the time with my companies so called sub contractors who win the job by the lowest price. Good luck finding him when somethings awry.
Years ago I heard from one of my employers that someone had called after having a new furnace install that it broke down and the installer would not answer phone calls. Anyway another company came out did the repairs submitted warranty paperwork and finds out later sheriff shows up at the homeowners house with a warrant. Seems the original installer had made a really good deal on that piece of equipment.
Not saying that this is the case here. But usually when something sounds too good to be true it usually is.
Aircraft Mechanical Accessories Technician. The Air Force changed the job title to Air Craft Environmental Systems Technician. But I've decided I'll always be a Mech Acc.
The whole thing is really quite plain and simple and we all run into it. The fact is there are plenty of guys who think making a hundred bucks for a days work is high living! Heck they are probably hauling the scrap fifty miles for another 40 bucks too. These human carp trade dollars on the material and are overjoyed with making a hundred or two for working all day.
A certain national supply chains parking lot is always filled with these guys speaking in tongues on the cell phone at the counter while the helper loads up a beat up unmarked window van filled with empty drywall buckets for a shelving system.
I met a gentleman a short time ago who made me a business proposition to join his company when he started it up, well I told him I would think on it but was not serious anyway he was at my neighbors house a couple weeks ago and the lady told me he would be there soon to do the work.I inquired as too what kind of equipment she was recieving and she said a comfortmaker. The guy shows up with an out of the box generic unit sold by a local parts dealer I watched as he unloaded the system and begin removing the old system and I asked is that the comfortmaker he replied yes it is and I said no it is not and he gave me this close your mouth look. So I informed the lady that that is not what she thinks it is and of course all hell breaks loose but in the end I was in my van giving here a quote for a carrier from my company that I work for,, idios amigo!
Yep I was on a sh*tty job the other day, I told the HO I bet I know who did this, she finally showed me the bill because she was upset also, of course my guess was right. The man is well known for his low quality but still stays busy, of course the HO couldn't get him back to fix the job because his back was sore and it was a far drive. The las job I had follow the guy on he had 8 gas leaks in just near boiler piping, that time he couldn't go back because he had hear problems and was busy, it's like ok which is it your busy or you have problems why the need for every excuse in the book one should be fine. I think since it's summer and he has a corvette he has better things to do. I sometimes wonder when he is in his office and his phone rings does he think to himself, is this going to be someone who needs work done or someone complaining? I could tell the story about the customer he told to go to his office and grab a pipe wrench and fix a water leak ( which was his fault ) themselves. I'm sorry I could rant all day but I'm sick of always being the bearer of bad news to customers.
The reason he can probably charge so little is because he doesn't pay any taxes. May not be the case but there are a lot of illegal immigrants where I live and they are cheap because they don't have the same overhead. Some of them do good work, some of them do very poor work.
Just to keep things in check.... Its white folks doing this car trunking too.
Ive known car trunkers all my life......some of them horrendously bad at what they do....but some of them who actually cared about giving good service to the customer.
Anyhow.... its not just the mexicans.

We have quite of few all truck and no tools contractors around here.
I'd rather use a contractor that drove an old window van, that has the proper tools and the knowledge to use them. Than some yahoo who pulls up in a $50K truck with no tools and when it comes time to do the the work he sends out a crew of illegals or inbreds.
Good for your employer.
I do hope your service vehicles are reliable.
Nothing wrong in keeping your vehicle in good working order and clean, but when some of these clowns pull up in a tricked out 4wheel drive with the Browning deer decal in the back window. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what their priorities are.
See it every year, guy's that are busy, doing a lot work really thinking they are making money. , Then after a season or two never to be seen again, because they don't have any $$ set aside for the lean times, get sick of the call backs. Granted not all of them get it, but many move on to something else.
